The Senior Education Gift Officer reports directly to the Chief Growth Officer in our Growth and Revenue Development Team. This role is crucial in helping Unbound to expand our educational initiatives, including by expanding funding sources, increasing awareness of our work, and driving the growth of sponsorship acquisition. The ideal candidate is strategic, innovative, and dynamic.

This role is responsible for building and nurturing Unbound’s relationship with US schools (public, charter, private, and so on), school superintendents, foundations and donors. This role also leads a small team by coaching and driving strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Strategy and Development

  • Collaborate with the other Unbound departments, such as International, to evolve the strategy for Unbound’s education-related programs, including Global Classmates and Scholarships, in order to grow the funding and awareness for these programs from new sources.
  • Develop and lead strategy to expand Unbound’s Global Classmates program to public and charter schools nationwide and be a key thought-partner on the evolution of the program in Catholic Schools.
  • Leverage existing funding for the Global Classmates program to enhance programming, engage a broader range of educational institutes and funders, and significantly increase the number of sponsored children internationally, while boosting awareness domestically.
  • Develop compelling, transformative, and turnkey curricula for U.S. students participating in the Global Classmates Program that broadens their worldview, deepens their values, and develops practical skills through relationships with sponsored children and youth in Unbound’s projects.

Fundraising and Relationship Management

  • Lead fundraising efforts for all education-related programs at Unbound, including Global Classmates, Scholarships, and other youth education initiatives.
  • Build a compelling and comprehensive business case for support.
  • Identify and cultivate strong relationships with school faculty and administration, particularly in public and charter schools nationwide
  • Identify and cultivate strong relationships with private, public and family foundations with an interest in funding domestic education through Unbound’s Global Classmates program or international education via Unbound’ s scholarship and other initiatives.
  • Create and manage an extensive list of Request for Information (RFI), request for proposal (RFP) and request for reporting (RFR) deadlines amongst prospective foundation partners, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Help to develop high quality reporting on the results of Unbound’s education initiatives.

Outreach and Engagement

  • Act as an Unbound Education expert, promoting knowledge of Unbound’s education programs through speaking engagements, in person visits, and written communication in various forms.
  • Develop strong relationships with decision-makers in the domestic public, private and charter education sectors, expanding curriculum adoption at a national level.
  • Engage domestic schools to significantly increase participation in Unbound’s Global Classmates program, and where possible, generate leads for mass cultivation through Global Classmates model.

Qualifications and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • 4 year degree—with highly preferred background in education.
  • 2+ years experience supervising others
  • Ability to travel, mostly domestic (less than 20%) with potential to travel internationally
  • 5+ years educational program management or fundraising development experience , non profit highly preferred
  • 3+ years developing and managing curriculum within educational institutions.
  • Experience building out strategic plans and executing.
  • Flexibility to attend conferences
  • Demonstrated strength in customer relationship development and management; strong skills in defusing conflict and coordinating service recovery; focused follow through with detailed response implementation.
  • Technical aptitude as a user of customer relationship management (CRM) tools, virtual communication and teleconferencing platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Proven history of success in gaining commitment and securing successful new partnerships.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively, respond quickly to changing priorities, and adapt within a fast-paced environment.
