In the 2023–24 season the NY Phil marks Jaap van Zweden’s farewell season as Music Director, and features 14 World, US, and New York Premieres, a celebration of the centennial of our famous Young People’s Concerts, and more. In February 2023 the New York Philharmonic announced the appointment of Gustavo Dudamel as the Orchestra’s next maestro, to begin as Music and Artistic Director in 2026–27, after serving as Music Director Designate in 2025–26.

The New York Philharmonic seeks a Director of Production & Media to lead the optimization of the organization’s day-to-day functions and to play an integral role in overseeing all aspects of concert and event production and operations. This role is responsible for maintaining and supporting the highest standards of artistic excellence through seamless execution of strategies, project management, and identifying opportunities to increase efficiencies. As the Director of Production & Media, you will also play a pivotal role in leading and cultivating a supportive team culture both internally and externally.

Responsibilities:

PRODUCTION/OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT:

  • Overall responsibility for day-to-day operations over various rehearsals, performances, and institutional events.
  • Cultivate positive relationships and proactive, collaborative flow of communication cross-departmentally and with external constituents; and serving as a key liaison with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Balance multiple priorities, ensuring all cross-departmental needs are considered and coordinated together.
  • Streamline and develop processes, procedures, and efficiencies both within the department and with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, including but not limited to: evaluation of vendors, stage setups, crew scheduling, etc.
  • Ensure financial discipline for the department by creating and managing production and media budgets, forecasts, proformas, and settlements.
  • Serve as a system administrator for ArtsVision, ensuring accuracy of database information and establishing internal processes and controls for the system; provide leadership for system integration throughout the organization.
  • Be fluent in and ensure compliance with various contracts, including but not limited to: Lincoln Center Constituency Agreement, IATSE, AFM, AGMA, IMA. Provide research assistance for union labor negotiations.

MEDIA MANAGEMENT:

  • Oversee daily management of audio & audio-visual production, media rights clearances, royalties, and licensing requests.
  • Supervise media department staff and collaborate cross-departmentally to produce various media projects, including but not limited to: audio recordings, television broadcasts, streaming, etc.
  • Develop procedures and systems to ensure accuracy & timeliness of payments, meeting reporting requirements, and preparation of data for funding opportunities.
  • Collaborate with various departments to streamline institutional media needs.
  • Regularly audit and identify capital equipment needs.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT:

  • Provide mentorship, leadership, support, and direction to direct and indirect reports.
  • Manage staffing, training, performance reviews, and goal setting for direct reports.
  • Participate in Concert Duty rotation as assigned.
  • Assist the VP of Production as assigned.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Desire to learn and contribute to the team by supporting others; Ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of internal and external constituents. Excellent communication (written and verbal), project and time management, and organizational skills. Ability to synthesize information into executive summary; Detail-oriented and proven ability to multi-task and demonstrated good judgment when balancing competing priorities. Proactive and capable of working independently; Strong computer skills in Microsoft programs (i.e.: Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with ArtsVision a plus. Ability to handle confidential information and maintain confidentiality; Knowledge of orchestral repertoire essential. Be available for occasional nights and weekends; Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as assigned; Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
