SUMMARY:
Plans, manages and directs the activities related to financial reporting, general ledger systems and general ledger training. Ensures compliance with accounting, audit, and regulatory requirements from the Office of the State Controller, the State Auditor, the North Carolina Community College System Office, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, Financial Accounting Standards Board, and other statutory organizations.

Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Manages the operation and maintenance of the general ledger system, including open and close of fiscal years. Responsible for the integrity of the general ledger data and for monitoring all systems that flow data into the general ledger.

2.     Provides guidance to divisions and departments on accounting policies and procedures; answers inquiries on complex technical issues. Performs accounting research as needed.

3.     Responsible for interpreting and implementing new accounting standards issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).

4.     Prepares and/or reviews all internal and external financial reports.

5.     Provides accounting oversite and reporting guidance.

6.     Provides accounting and reporting guidance with regards to WTVI-PBS Charlotte accounting and Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) grant guidelines.

7.     Prepares the college’s and other necessary annual financial statements. Serves as the College financial contact with the Office of the State Auditor and the Office of the State Controller for all matters concerning financial statement preparation, Annual Comprehensive Finance Report (ACFR), year-end closeout and any necessary communications.

8.     Responsible for coordination of the year-end audit process for the College, WTVI- PBS Charlotte, and Central Piedmont Community College Services Corporation.

9.     Supervises assigned departmental staff; establishes schedules and assigns tasks; monitors and evaluates staff performance.

10.  Manages the client’s fixed asset inventory control process, including implementing and monitoring proper labeling, tracking movements, record keeping and disposal of assets.

Minimum Requirements:

·       Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting/ Business Administration or equivalent.

·       Six or more years of professional accounting experience relevant to this role.

·       Experience in financial statement preparation and employee management is also required.

·       Experience with GASB accounting standard implementation. Experience working with GASB institutions.

·       Knowledge of general accounting and auditing principles and practices and the ability to interpret and apply to the College and related entities

·       Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

·       Accounting Management experience and the proven track record of effectively working with all levels of an organization effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

·       CPA designation 

·       Experience working with large integrated accounting systems in an academic and/or governmental organization
