Owens Roofing, Inc. - Commercial Roofing Sheet Metal Project Manager

Owens Roofing, Inc (ORI), is seeking highly motivated and goal-oriented Commercial Roofing Sheet Metal Project Managers to join our growing team. Owens Roofing, Inc. provides a full range of quality roofing services, including commercial & industrial roofing, re-roofs, leak repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, sheet metal fabrication and installation, and 24/7 service. ORI started in 1986 and has grown gradually throughout the years. We are based in Smithfield, NC and service all of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Georgia.

The Commercial Sheet Metal Project Manager is responsible for overseeing roofing projects that involve fabrication and installation of sheet metal components. Their duties include planning, budgeting, safety compliance, quality assurance, client communication, team leadership, measuring, ordering, fabrication and installation, crew coordination / management, and problem-solving.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School/ G.E.D required; Associates/Bachelors preferred.
  • Welders certification preferred, but not required.
  • Must speak English. Bilingual is preferred.
  • Proficient / Advanced mathematical and computer skills
  • Read tape measures, manuals, and specifications/plans effectively
  • Driver's license is required
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in verbal or written form
  • Must not be afraid of heights
  • At least 5 years of Commercial Roofing and Sheet metal Experience, 3 years Superintendent

Essential Functions

  • Efficiently manage sheet metal components, including fabrication, installation, and inventory
  • Prioritize safety and quality during fabrication and installation
  • Maintain quality skill levels and workmanship of colleagues and apprentices.
  • Lead and motivate crews to achieve project goals and objectives. Hold team members and colleagues accountable.
  • Maintain strict budgetary control and cost tracking
  • Maintain strict inventory control and material usage rates
  • Conduct effective communication with clients, engineers, and architects to remain transparent, resolve any issues in relation to sheet metal, and perform any adaptations that may be required
  • Review and analyze the plans, specs, materials ordered and delivery schedule, budget and project site contacts
  • Manage and supervise commercial roofing crews and subcontractors
  • Attend and participate in the Pre-construction meetings
  • Clearly communicate with engineers, building owners, consultants, project managers, manufacturers, and administrators
  • Ensures projects are completed in the most efficient way possible
  • Coordinate and manage the sheet metal measurement, install process and quality control

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • In depth knowledge of sheet metal roofing systems and components, materials and installation techniques.
  • In depth knowledge of how to fabricate and install components including but not limited to flashings, coping and coping caps, metal wall panels, gravel stops, eave drip, line jacks, gutters, custom gutters, downspouts, scuppers, counterflashing, gravity vents, and the like.
  • Train and develop everyone working under your management to improve their individual and collective work quality, productivity, and safety.
  • Review blueprints, drawings, and project manuals to determine work details and procedures.
  • Perform complex calculations and planning for unique or particularly large jobs.
  • Delegate tasks to fabricators, ensuring the timeliness and quality of fabrication packages.
  • Approve fabrication packages prior to delivery on site for installation.
  • Initiate Internal Kick-off meeting with the installing crew on site, ensuring a thorough understanding of each item to be installed, and the method of installation.
  • Fabricate metal items current fabricators are not skilled/qualified to fabricate.
  • Operate and train team members on how to operate heavy machinery, up to and including forklifts, gutter machines, power drills, aluminum bending machines, stationary and portable pan breaks, pipe rollers, grinders, vices and the like.
  • Operate and train team members to operate various hand tools including but not limited to power drills, tape measures, rulers, screw drivers, wrenches, hammers.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of how to install counter flashing, coping, fascia, gutters, miters, downspouts, roof curbs, flat lock, and thru-wall flashing
  • Knowledge of how to install crickets, chimney flashing, curbs, and how to make seaming and horizontal and vertical soldering
