Primary Care Physician

Job Summary:
A Primary Care Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive, first-line healthcare to patients of all ages. They offer routine check-ups, preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of health conditions. PCPs build long-term relationships with their patients, ensuring continuity of care and addressing various aspects of physical and mental health.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and obtain detailed medical histories.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses and conditions.
- Prescribe medications and therapies as needed.
- Develop and implement patient management plans.
- Perform routine and preventive health screenings (e.g., immunizations, cholesterol checks).
- Provide health education and counseling to patients on lifestyle changes, disease prevention, and wellness.
Coordination of Care:
- Coordinate with specialists and other healthcare professionals for complex cases.
- Referrals to specialists when necessary.
- Manage and monitor ongoing treatment plans and patient progress.
Patient Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with patients.
- Address patient concerns and provide support.
- Engage in shared decision-making with patients and their families.
Documentation and Administration:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Document patient interactions, treatment plans, and outcomes.
- Ensure proper billing and coding for services rendered.
Compliance and Quality Improvement:
- Adhere to all healthcare regulations and standards, including patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
- Stay current with medical advancements and evidence-based practices.
Emergency Care:
- Provide initial care and stabilization for emergency situations.
- Determine the need for further intervention or hospitalization.
Qualifications:
- Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Licensure: Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or a related specialty. Current state medical license.
- Experience: Experience in primary care settings preferred. New graduates may be considered.
- Skills:
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Organizational and time-management abilities.
Work Environment:
- Primary care physicians typically work in clinics, private practices, or community health centers.
- Standard office hours, with potential for occasional evening or weekend shifts depending on the practice setting.
- May involve on-call responsibilities for patient emergencies.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and move about the office for extended periods.
- Capability to handle the physical demands of patient examinations and procedures.
