Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Heavy Civil Construction Project Engineer to join our team. The Project Engineer will support the project management team in planning, coordinating, and executing heavy civil construction projects. This role requires a solid understanding of heavy civil engineering principles, construction processes, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination: Assist the Project Manager in planning and coordinating all aspects of heavy civil projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource management. Ensure project tasks are completed on time and within budget.
  • Document Control: Prepare, review, and manage project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, shop drawings, and daily reports. Ensure all documents are accurate, up-to-date, and comply with project specifications.
  • Field Engineering Support: Provide on-site support to field teams by interpreting construction plans and specifications, performing field measurements, and ensuring that work complies with contract documents.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor construction activities to ensure they meet project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular site inspections and work with the quality control team to address any deficiencies.
  • Cost Control and Estimating: Assist in tracking project costs, managing budgets, and preparing cost estimates. Work with the project management team to implement value engineering and cost-saving measures.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure materials and services are delivered on time and conform to project requirements. Assist in reviewing and negotiating subcontractor agreements.
  • Scheduling: Develop and maintain project schedules using construction management software. Monitor project progress, identify potential delays, and work with the project team to develop recovery plans.
  • Safety Management: Support and enforce site safety protocols, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Conduct regular safety meetings and participate in safety inspections.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, engineers, inspectors, and other stakeholders. Provide regular updates on project status, address concerns, and facilitate problem-solving.
  • Project Closeout: Assist in project closeout activities, including punch list management, final inspections, as-built documentation, and turnover to the client.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy civil construction, preferably as a Project Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, P6, Bluebeam) and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • OSHA 30 certification or willingness to obtain is a plus.
