The Sustaining Engineer owns full responsibility for technical oversight and timely management of global resources for all existing functional product lines at greater than 3 years of release into the marketplace across all WA Lighting brands and sales channels. This role will employ their high level technical LED Lighting product knowledge and product life cycle management experience to support generation changes, certifications, discontinuation, custom product opportunities and component management to ensure ROI and business growth.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead technical support resource to internal and external stakeholders that impact business decisions. Deliver opportunities for increased margin across existing product lines.
- Drive business objectives by effectively managing all life cycle phases for existing product lines. Manage and identify potential problems and deliver corrective action according to timelines.
- Analyze and deliver ROI for existing Technical / Functional Lighting products lines and brands.
- Maintain a deep understanding and current knowledge of Codes and Standards regulations and changes to include UL, ETL, NEC, Energy Star, Title 24, Dark Sky, and Turtle Friendly Lighting. Provide and execute appropriate decisions that continuously safeguard certifications and drive sales.
- Report on performance metrics for existing products. Identify and drive areas for continued improvement.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with Customers, Sales Teams and Leadership. Communicate product opportunities and resolve all open issues.
- Closely collaborate globally with internal and external teams to include domestic and overseas Engineering Resources, Marketing, Operations, Purchasing, Quality Control, Sales, Submittals and Technical Support to drive business objectives. Anticipate and manage potential problems; drive delivery of corrective actions.
- Consistently provide recommendations for and manage discontinuation or upgrades of existing products to provide the maximum positive impact to the business. Deliver timely and accurate updates across all marketing assets to include spec sheets, websites, and catalogs.
- Coordinate closely with Supply Chain Management and Sales teams on executing solutions for stock transition of discontinued items.
- Manage timely and accurate updating and maintenance of Bills of Material across all US facilities.
- Analyze and deliver recommendations of value added Custom opportunities for existing product lines and brands.
- Manage the essential component part replacement program across all existing Technical / Functional Lighting brands.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field of study.
- 5-8 years of professional experience in a complex technical electronics/consumer product manufacturing environment managing product life cycles.
- Demonstrated high level project, time management and prioritization skills in managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Strong technical skills and ability to maintain a high level of product knowledge.
- Ability to solve complex problems and overcome challenges to maximize Return on Investment (ROI) and exceed customer expectations.
- Proven professional ability to drive and manage change in a complex manufacturing environment.
- Ability to drive directives through non-direct reports.
- Attention to detail in composing materials, establishing priorities and meeting tight and swiftly changing deadlines.
- Proven understanding of construction methods and codes.
- Solid understanding of operational and sales structures in a complex, sales driven environment.
