ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST
ALTA IT Services is staffing a direct hire opportunity for an Accounting Specialist to support a healthcare-related non-profit association in Durham, NC. The Accounting Specialist will provide accounting administrative support to the company’s affiliate accounting firm. This full-time, exempt position will report to the CEO. This position will offer a hybrid work schedule, with in-office work required at least 3 days per week. Primary responsibilities will be performed at the company’s headquarters office in Durham, NC.
The company is a dynamic, team-oriented business with an excellent benefits package, generous PTO allotment, a flexible hybrid work environment, and competitive compensation packages.
SALARY RANGE: $70,000 to $73,000 range annually, plus benefits.
Location: Durham, NC (hybrid)
Non-profit experience preferred
Must be fully COVID vaccinated (exemptions for religious, and medical reasons with documentation)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting Duties (90% of the time):
· Educate staff in accounting procedures and offer periodic education on staff meetings.
· Track incoming checks received by mail. Process and submit to the lockbox for deposit.
· Assist outside accounting firm with processing accounts receivable and accounts payable.
· Assist outside accounting firm with collecting W-9 forms, processing 1099s, and tracking down outstanding checks.
· Review the office’s monthly credit card bills, collect GL codes from staff, and submit them to an outside accounting firm for payment.
· Handle the volunteer payment coordination process, including honoraria payments and expense reimbursements.
· Manage and distribute daily lockbox batches from the bank. Provide the outside accounting firm with monthly reconciliation reports.
· Serve as a backup payroll processor for bi-weekly payroll.
· Review office vendor invoices for accuracy and coding and prepare for payment.
· Help the CEO and Deputy CEO manage the yearly budget cycle.
· Manage annual audit coordination with staff. Manage the 990-filing process.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO and Deputy CEO.
Other Functions:
General Administrative (10% of the time):
· Support the organization by attending staff meetings, working on task forces, seeking and attending professional development opportunities, working in a team atmosphere and cooperating with other staff members, and completing minutes, meeting summaries, paperwork, and timesheets promptly
· Contribute to other projects and tasks as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree required. CPA preferred.
· Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as an Accounting Specialist, preferably in a non-profit or association setting, is required.
