Senior Accountant

Our client is a non-profit organization that for over a century has been at the forefront of biotech and life sciences research, driving discoveries that change the world. They are hiring a Senior Accountant that has strong knowledge of endowments and grant funding. This position is located in the La Jolla area and will require an on-site presence with a starting pay of $80k.
Position Summary
The role develops, administers, and maintains accounting systems. This role prepares financial statements, footnote disclosures, journal entries, and reconciles complex general ledger accounts. It also optimizes processes and incorporates automation for efficiency, providing comprehensive support and analysis to the department.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA license highly preferred but not required
- At least five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including two years in public accounting.
Skills:
- Preferred experience in investment and endowment accounting.
- Proficiency in interpreting contracts and adhering to GAAP.
- Experience with new accounting pronouncements and writing technical memos.
- Familiarity with large ERP systems (journal entries, queries, reports)
Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate accounting for investments, gifts, and endowments.
- Endowment Reporting: Experience in endowment accounting and reporting investment activity.
- Reconcile general ledger activity to investments.
- Prepare reports on gift and endowment funding and annual audit workpapers.
- Perform complex accounting and analysis in high-risk areas.
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and audit schedules; analyze historical accounting data.
- Prepare financial statements, footnote disclosures, and related support.
- Design, document, and monitor systems and processes for compliance and efficiency.
- Workday or endowment software experience is a plus.
