POSITION OBJECTIVE: Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Communications Manager assists in the advancement of PRSA’s reputation and public image, as well as raising awareness of the brand mission and vision through effective short- and long-term public relations plans and initiatives.

The position supports PRSA’s many divisions, including PRSSA and the PRSA Foundation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Establish and cultivate key media relationships, arrange media interviews, prepare message points, develop briefing documents and assist in drafting public statements consistent with PRSA’s messaging.
  • Proactively research and identify media, speaking, and award opportunities related to the organization’s thought leadership platform.
  • Develop and distribute press releases; write and pitch opinion editorials/byline articles and letters to the editor; leverage and share PRSA and co-branded content across multiple communications channels, including social media.
  • Craft award submissions on behalf of PRSA and PRSSA.
  • Create content for member communications, including, but not limited to, video scripts and email messages from the Chair and/or CEO, including the PRSA Insider (4x per year).
  • Contribute to the writing and editing of the Year in Review annual report.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to create scripts for Anvil Awards, ICON conference, and executive speaking engagements.
  • Draft posts and track engagement for all social media platforms related to announcements, editorial coverage, awards, and messages/statements from the PRSA Chair.
  • Serve as staff liaison to volunteer-led Committees as requested.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to the development of the Communications Department content calendar.
  • Staff and/or attend PRSA events and relevant industry functions.
  • Maintain and update relevant sections of PRSA websites.
  • Day-to-day maintenance of media outreach, media placements, and award submission spreadsheets. Maintain up-to-date media contact lists.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other related fields.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in public relations or related communications experience at agency or in-house.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media, scheduling software and measurement tools.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills required with ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge of video editing software also desirable.
