Job DescriptionJob Description

A truss builder's job is to design and construct load-bearing structures called trusses, which are used in many different applications, such as bridges, roofs, and tower buildings. Their responsibilities include:  

  • Assembling: Using pre-cut wood or metal pieces to build triangular structures  
  • Reinforcing: Using metal plates to reinforce the connecting joints  
  • Measuring: Measuring each part for accuracy to ensure the structure can provide the necessary support  
  • Stacking: Stacking finished product  
  • Banding and marking: Banding and marking materials  
  • Pushing: Pushing product on carts to the appropriate area  

Some skills that are important for a truss builder include:

  • Manual dexterity
  • Proficient carpentry skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stoop, climb, lift, bend, push, and kneel
  • Strong attention to detail
