Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager or Director of Operations to oversee all aspects of our custom metal awning fabrication shop, specializing in high-quality awnings. This role requires a strong background in metal fabrication and welding, with a preference for those with specific experience in awning manufacturing. The ideal candidate will manage daily operations, drive continuous improvement, and ensure the delivery of unique and intricate products.


Responsibilities:

  • Production Oversight:
    • Manage the production process from raw material to product completion.
    • Schedule fabrication workload to ensure lead times are met.
    • Monitor production metrics and implement improvements to enhance productivity.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Train, supervise, and evaluate production employees, ensuring quality and productivity.
    • Lead and inspire a diverse team to achieve exceptional results.
    • Promote a positive and effective workplace culture through regular team meetings and individual check-ins.
  • Quality and Safety:
    • Promote excellence in safety, quality, and production.
    • Ensure all safety and health standards are met to maintain an accident-free workplace.
    • Champion product quality to produce products that exceed company standards and client expectations.
  • Project and Inventory Management:
    • Collaborate with project managers to ensure job requirements are being met.
    • Review work drawings and specifications for accuracy before production.
    • Manage inventory levels of raw materials, shop supplies, and consumables.
  • Client Relations and Growth:
    • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
    • Ensure client architectural visions are realized to the highest standards.
    • Drive the development of new products and solutions to set industry trends.
  • Financial Oversight:
    • Oversee the financial strategy, including budgeting and forecasting.
    • Ensure optimal financial performance and manage project budgets and man-hours.
  • Operations Improvement:
    • Identify trends and assess opportunities to improve processes and execution.
    • Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant management experience, preferably in awning manufacturing or a similar field.
  • Preferred experience in manufacturing fabric components using industrial sewing machines, cutters, grommet machines, and fabric heat sealers.
  • Strong technical background in metal fabrication and welding techniques.
  • Proficiency with technical drawings, blueprints, and fabrication processes.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Highly organized and capable of working with spreadsheets and/or ERP software.
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty equipment and CNC machinery.
  • Independent thinker and problem solver.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a relevant technical field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other project management software.
  • Proven track record of driving business growth and achieving financial targets.
  • Strong decision-making skills and a results-driven approach.
  • Ability to foster strong relationships with employees, vendors, and customers.
