Description

Job Title:  Volunteer Coordinator                                 Status:             Full time, non-exempt

Reports to: Call Center Director                                 Position:          40 hours/week              

Summary: 

Description

Working remotely from their home offices and in the community, TRA Volunteer Coordinators, aka Mobility Managers, recruit, retain, and reward volunteers who drive older adults and adults with low vision to medical appointments. Salary will be commensurate with experience.  Dynamic team with growth potential.

Core Competencies

The ideal candidate will be prepared to work hard and learn with us.  Coordinators will be eager to engage groups and individuals in the community to benefit older adults and adults with disabilities. We are looking for a creative person with excellent interpersonal skills, in addition to previous experience working with volunteers

Specific Responsibilities

Recruitment Outreach & Networking

·        Create and implement quarterly recruitment and retention implementation plans, including organizing volunteer recognition events in the Spring, a volunteer winter holiday event, and multiple smaller volunteer engagement events throughout the year.

·        Develop and implement plans for identifying and connecting with potential volunteers of all ages in diverse communities.

·        Schedule and coordinate appearances in libraries, medical facilities, health fairs, older adult programs to share information about TRA and the importance of volunteer ride programs.

·        Represent TRA at various local networking groups, e.g., chambers of commerce, business groups, civic organizations (e.g., Rotary or Lions Clubs, Women’s Clubs).

·        With other TRA team, forge strategic partnerships with community organizations to promote TRA volunteer program and general visibility.

Volunteer Management

·        Steward volunteers and other program participants with the goal of sustaining their interest and enthusiasm in the program.

·        Maintain a positive and rewarding volunteer experience while recruiting, screening, training, recognizing, and rewarding volunteers.

·        Provide a training program for new volunteers who drive, do outreach, and provide back office supports.

·        With the Volunteer Department Administrative Assistant, maintain materials and processes appropriate for volunteer intake, orientation, and recruitment.

·        Among volunteer drivers, monitor reports received following each trip and intervene, as appropriate.

·        Provide volunteers with annual performance reviews.

·        Run meetings with volunteers for training and exchange of best practices.

Planning & Evaluation

·        Participate in developing multi-year plans with concrete measures for accomplishing annual goals.

·        Monitor success of recruitment strategies, implementing best practices as appropriate, e.g., Shepherd’s Centers (now Aging Forward) Turnkey Kit as a model.

General and reporting

·        Provide thoughtful and on-going recommendations to improve and expand the program.

Qualifications/Requirements:

·        Interest in the needs and well-being of older adults and adults with disabilities and their caregivers.

·        Demonstrated success in recruiting and managing volunteers, especially drivers and programs for older adults.

·        Ability to treat each client, volunteer, and staff member with dignity and respect.

·        Bachelor’s degree in social work or equivalent, desired.

·        A self-starter, with strong organizational skills.

·        Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to share the unique history, values, and goals of the organization.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

·        Bi-lingual Spanish highly desired.

·        Valid NYS driver’s license with driving record required to maintain NYS insurance or equivalent.

·        Home office with high-speed internet and a smart phone.

·        Current vehicle insurance and clear criminal background check.

Physical Demands:

·        Sitting, viewing computer screen, and using the keyboard for extended periods.

·        Ability to drive to community events and to backup volunteer drivers, as needed.

·        Ability to host TRA tables at some weekend heritage festivals or other community events.

·        Office work is conducted remotely from employee home offices.
