POSITION SUMMARY

The Adult Learning Director provides oversight to all adult and community learning programming within MOBC’s Family Success Center including but not limited to HISET and basic skills instruction, digital empowerment, post-secondary coaching, and community classes. Through mentoring, training and leadership this role will ensure team members and partners work together to develop a culture that reflects Martha O’Bryan’s mission, core beliefs, and values of literacy and lifelong learning. In addition, in collaboration with the other department leadership, The Adult Learning Director will be an active participant of the Family Success Center’s team supporting its efforts and working towards its two-generational Key Performance Indicators where all children are kindergarten ready, all caregivers have living wage paying jobs with ladder up opportunities, and all families are stable and thriving.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Adult Learning

  • Research, designs, and implements education programming for adults in the following primary areas, but not limited to, completion of the High School Equivalency exam (HiSET); improvement of basic skills in reading, math, and writing; post-secondary access and persistence; and digital literacy.
  • Manage student testing accommodations and HiSET testing accounts, including helping students apply for testing accommodations and signing students up for HiSET tests.
  • Participate as Martha O’Bryan’s representative in GOAL Collective, the Adult Education collective in Middle Tennessee.
  • Supports teachers in coaching clients towards their goals.

Community Learning

  • Oversees community education programming and curriculum needs.
  • Serves as the Lead Facilitator on the planning and facilitation of digital literacy.
  • Teaches transferable skills adult learners need in civic, digital, financial, health, and workplace preparation and ensures the community-based learning opportunities happen weekly.
  • Builds and refines the adult education learning community design process that centers input from members of the community and provides clear possibilities to meet those needs.

Facilitation & Management

  • Manages staff and AmeriCorps members, providing supervision, professional development, and performance evaluation in support of achieving program and professional goals.
  • Manages public outreach for the program including advertising the program, recruiting, and developing partnerships.
  • Supervises and supports volunteers.
  • Assists with researching funding opportunities and proposals for grant requests in partnership with the Chief Program Officer and MOBC grant writers.
  • Oversees all Adult & Community Learning budgets and expenses
  • Conducts program audits.
  • Ensures programming environment is warm and inviting, content is relevant, clients are cared for, and that residents are empowered and have opportunities for meaningful relationships and participation.
  • Assumes responsibility for contract compliance, both internal and external.
  • Facilitates flow of information and integration by attending and/or conducting meetings with other Martha O’Bryan Center staff members, grant partners, and others.
  • Develops strong networking ties to other social service, training and education programs and agencies in the Nashville area by collaborating on topics of mutual interest, advocating in the interest of customers, and making customer referrals both internally and externally to other agencies.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Employment and Career Pathways to create a pipeline of workers ready to meet the needs of local in-demand industries and provide adult learners career success.
  • Workers collaboratively with other Family Success Center programs to further develop successful transitions into college and/or the work force.
  • Utilizes data to inform programming, employing Martha O’Bryan’s data management systems and Google tools for data tracking, reporting, and analysis of program progress and effectiveness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience with adults in vulnerable life situations or communities
  • Supervisory and program leadership experience in a social service organization.
  • Grant management, including reporting and compliance for government grants.
