Process Safety Engineer - a direct hire opportunity in beautiful Northwest Indiana. The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for providing process safety engineering support to the plant. This includes process safety management (PSM), capital project implementation, process improvement and optimization, process control optimization, and developing and implementing procedures.

Process Safety Engineer - Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide process engineering support for the day-to-day operations of manufacturing operations.
  • Lead and continuously improve the site PSM program.
  • Assist Plant Manager with EHS compliance, including documentation, reports, and permit modifications.
  • Maintain policies and procedures required to maintain, strengthen, and support ISO and EHS programs.
  • Assist in investigations and corrective actions for process and safety incident investigations. Perform root cause analysis and initiate corrective actions as required.
  • Provide leadership for establishing and maintaining a safe work environment. Proactively addresses and corrects all unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Manage the design, specification, and installation of small to medium-process capital projects as required.
  • Work closely with the Quality department to ensure/establish ISO compliance in all required areas.
  • Use process data to recommend changes to ensure product quality, and process stability, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Provide technical assistance to operations and maintenance to optimize, improve, and troubleshoot processes and process equipment.
  • De-bottleneck manufacturing processes through the optimization of existing equipment, improved use of resources or the acquisitions of new technology and equipment.
  • Support process development and process optimization efforts.
  • Partner with R&D and Manufacturing departments on strategies to improve product and process improvements on existing products and new business development opportunities.
  • Provide thorough instructions for successful implementation of process changes using the management of change process.
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement throughout the production environment.

Process Safety Engineer - Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • OSHA 30 hour and experience with Process Safety Management
  • A Minimum of 3 years experience in a chemical or pigment manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, technical skills, and a professional demeanor.
  • Experience or certification with Lean Six Sigma.
  • Excellent analytical and math skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and solve problems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Live the “continuous improvement” philosophy; develop and adopt innovative ideas and concepts.
