The Structural Project Engineer position is available within the Merrillville office of ClarkDietrich Engineering Services, LLC.
SUMMARY
This role involves conducting structural analysis, civil engineering, and drafting tasks associated with cold-formed steel framing in a dynamic and high-volume professional office setting.
The Structural Project Engineer will collaborate closely with technical support to deliver precise and professional information to both external and internal clients in a timely manner.
Moreover, this position requires working alongside the General Manager, Engineering Manager, Project Managers, and Engineering Technicians to implement agreed-upon methods throughout the design process, ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive and accurate shop drawing and calculation package.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PROCESS MANAGEMENT
- Maintain relationships with clients through courteous communication and prompt service.
- Enhance ClarkDietrich's specifications through detailed shop drawings and technical information.
- Develop strong relationships with Account Representatives, Territory Managers, and Regional Sales staff.
ENGINEERING DESIGN
- Interpret and analyze drawings accurately.
- Notify Project Manager of any scheduling conflicts.
- Create a CAD/BIM production detail drawing package for cold-formed steel structures, including detailed views and structural details.
- Design cold-formed steel structures, including wall systems and stability analysis.
- Prepare calculations in a clear and presentable format for internal review and client submission.
- Utilize analysis programs or manual methods for structural calculations as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to complete engineering tasks efficiently.
- Ensure project drawings and calculations receive approval from the Project Manager, Engineering Manager, or General Manager.
- Independently determine methods for structural design to ensure public safety and welfare.
- Assist management in resolving project challenges and meeting deadlines to client satisfaction.
OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage daily office and engineering tasks using management tools.
- Maintain a tidy office environment.
- Work collaboratively with all team members.
- Engage in office meetings and discussions.
- Support technical services by addressing engineering design inquiries and completing necessary drawings or calculations.
- Contribute positively to project completion and office objectives through teamwork and a willingness to perform various tasks.
HUMAN RESOURCES

QUALIFICATIONS:
ENGINEERING TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering and formal education in building design is preferred.
- Flexibility in design and problem-solving using various approaches.
- Proficient in engineering tasks using computer software and analysis tools.
- Familiarity with structural building components and CAD-related experience is required.
- Understanding of framing standards and installation methods.
- Proficiency in software for analysis, including AUTOCAD and Revit; BIM experience is a plus.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Prepare written correspondence professionally.
- Deliver effective verbal presentations.
- Communicate cooperatively with team members.
MANAGEMENT SKILLS
- Effectively manage projects by notifying team members of conflicts and deadlines.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients through effective time and task management.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil/Structural preferred, other relevant disciplines considered).
- Professional Engineering certification or eligibility to take the E.I.T exam is a plus.
- Military experience may be recognized in lieu of education or experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Advanced skills in geometry, calculus, and finite element methods.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to analyze complex data.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Occasional travel to job sites, client offices, and trade shows may be required.
