Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Fire Protection Inspection and Extinguisher Department Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations. The Inspection Manager will be the primary point of contact for all inspection-related matters and will work closely with clients to identify potential issues and provide expert advice. The successful candidate will have a strong background in fire protection inspection and will be familiar with fire alarm, extinguisher, kitchen hood suppression and sprinkler systems.

Job Summary: As the Fire Protection Inspections Department Manager, you will oversee and manage a team of Fire Protection Inspectors, Extinguisher Technicians, and Hood Suppression Technicians responsible for conducting inspections and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and structures to ensure compliance with fire safety codes, regulations, and standards. Your role involves coordinating inspection schedules, providing technical guidance, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of inspections, and overseeing regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership and Management:
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of Fire Protection Inspectors and Technicians.
  • Coordinate and prioritize inspection schedules to maximize efficiency and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify training needs for team members.
  • Inspection Oversight and Quality Assurance:
  • Oversee the planning and execution of fire protection inspections.
  • Manage and supervise the daily operations of the fire protection extinguisher department.
  • Manage and supervise the daily operations of the fire protection hood suppression department.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, codes, and standards related to fire extinguisher installation and maintenance, hood suppression installation and maintenance and inspections.
  • Review inspection reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Coordinate the inspection, testing, and servicing of fire extinguishers and hood suppression systems according to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks to ensure all are in proper working condition and ready for use.
  • Conduct periodic quality assurance checks to maintain high standards of inspection performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:
  • Stay updated on fire safety codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., NFPA, IBC, local codes).
  • Ensure inspections are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, violations, corrective actions, and compliance status.
  • Maintain accurate records of fire extinguisher inventory, including locations, types, inspection dates, and service histories.
  • Monitor stock levels and reorder fire extinguishers and parts as needed to maintain adequate supplies.
  • Technical Expertise and Problem Solving:
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise on fire protection systems, equipment, and procedures.
  • Evaluate inspection findings and recommend improvements to fire protection systems based on industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Address complex fire safety issues and collaborate with stakeholders to implement effective solutions.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Interface with building owners, managers, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders regarding inspection results, compliance issues, and corrective actions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external parties to coordinate inspections, resolve issues, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Continuous Improvement and Training:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in inspection procedures and documentation.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for inspectors to enhance their skills, knowledge of regulations, and proficiency in inspection techniques.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in fire protection inspections, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Certification as a Fire Inspector or Fire Protection Specialist preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of fire safety codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., NFPA, IBC).
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools, software, and applications.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, make informed decisions, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Certification as a Fire Extinguisher Technician, Fire Inspector, or similar credential preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • This position typically involves both office-based work and field inspections.
  • Occasional travel may be required to conduct inspections or attend meetings.
