Automatic Fire Protection Systems Project Manager/Estimator

H.J. Pertzborn Plumbing and Fire Protection, Inc. is seeking a highly organized, quality focused Project Manager within our Fire Protection team. This opportunity is responsible for estimating and managing fire protection projects in an efficient, profitable, and quality manner to successfully complete project and generate future business. Your contributions will ensure that our internal and external customers have an outstanding experience by:

  • Completing take offs and estimating project costs and bidding work in a timely manner.
  • Reviewing contracts for requirements and insurance compliance before finalizing the contract.
  • Ensuring a signed proposal is obtained (purchase order or confirming letter.)
  • Creating project related work orders, change orders, and job worksheet.
  • Obtaining proper credit and pricing approvals.
  • Participating in the project scope review with each contractor when project is awarded.
  • Negotiating and purchasing materials, equipment, subcontractor contracts and other related direct expenses.
  • Identifying long lead time materials, coordinating materials and equipment using current inventory stock, and/or directing the Purchasing Manager to order materials.
  • Working with and directing the Pipe Fabricator to meet project requirements.
  • Scheduling the delivery of materials and equipment for project use as the schedule progresses.
  • Assigning Fire Protection/Sprinkler Fitter labor to jobs, managing the staff hours, and revisiting project completion to adjust staff assigned to projects.
  • Reviewing thoroughly and approving all work orders and change orders and relaying costs to accounting.
  • Auditing labor hours/job costs at various project milestones.
  • Communicating with job foreman weekly to track job progress.
  • Managing the field materials list.
  • Walking the job site on a consistent basis to monitor progress.
  • Communicating with field team and ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
  • Providing accurate detail to field team and the accounting department for job costing and invoicing.
  • Ensuring all change orders have been processed and billed on a timely basis.
  • Completing punch lists and warranty commitments.
  • Scheduling job completion and processing timely close out of jobs.
  • Communicating job completion to the Accounting department for final invoicing.
  • Advising Project Coordinators to prepare project manuals with estimated release date. Confirming release date.
  • Conducting a project post mortem to assess bid/estimate to actual costs.
  • Applying project lessons to our processes and procedures to enhance our project delivery.
  • Using project lessons to mentor and grow less seasoned team members.
  • Coordinating with other departments to generate the best outcome for H.J. Pertzborn.
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with customers, general contractors, and suppliers.

To be successful in this opportunity, you will need:

  • 3-5 years of project management/estimating experience with fire protection or related trade is required.
  • Field experience in the Fire Protection Field preferred.
  • Strong ability to coordinate bids, calculate labor/material costs, and meet bid deadlines.
  • Strong ability to schedule/manage manpower, schedule/estimate equipment costs, and audit project estimate to actual at various milestones in the project.
  • Demonstrated organizational (e.g., tracking, file management, etc.) skills.
  • Ability to write professional correspondence (e-mails, memos, etc.)
  • Basic accounting and mathematical skills are required.
  • Basic understanding of construction documents including bids, architectural, and engineering drawings, AIA contracts, certificates of insurance, and warranty terms is required.
  • Solid analyzation, problem solving, and decision making skills (e.g. job analysis, job profitability, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of state and local building codes in respect to Fire Protection is required.
  • Familiarity and application of NFPA codes & standards is required.
  • Basic Computer Aided Design skills, and AutoCAD skills are required.
  • Proficiency in HydraCAD is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and related software is required.
  • Solid presentation skills in terms of oral and written communication are required.
  • Ability and interest in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with coworkers, customers, suppliers, vendors, general contractors and/or subcontractors is required.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and the ability to be insured by our company insurance policy is required.
