Title: Employment Specialist

Reports To: Project Director

Hours per week: 40

Qualifications:

• Must have a High School Diploma

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field preferred

• Certified IPS credential required

• Two years’ work experience must be with homeless mentally ill adults who are dually

diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse

Skills and Abilities:

• work within a system of fully electronic record keeping and medical records assuring a

comprehensive health history and up to date health and medication information is recorded

in the consumers electronic health record

• Must have valid California Drivers license and the availability of a car with adequate

insurance.

• Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide services for clients as a part of the CCBHC Team using evidenced-based practices of

Seeking Safety, Housing First, Motivational Interviewing and emerging practice JPS

• Develop employment resources appropriate for formerly homeless mentally ill adults.

Employment options developed should include a variety of skilled and unskilled

employment placements.

• Assist clients in completing employment applications and developing resumes and any other

required paperwork. Ensure clients are able to keep job interview appointments and meetings

as needed.

• Interview potential employers to identify new employment resources for clients. Explain how

SCHARP services will assist the client to be stable employees.

• Coordinate all employment placements with CCBHC Team, working together to ensure a

good match between the client and the employer.

• Develop resources for temporary or transitional employment and job training situations

while clients are developing work skills and habits.

• Monitor clients placed in employment or job training situations. Monitoring is to identify

potential problems and develop intervention strategy with CCBHC Team as well as the

employer or training program.

• Prepare for weekly clinical staff meetings by having current information on the status of

clients and employment/training resources. Attends all inter/intra agency meetings as

scheduled or assigned.

• Provide services with a strong behavioral health recovery orientation, cultural sensitivity, and

awareness of the unique needs of the population of focus; homeless persons with co­

occurring disorder transitioning from jail to the community.

• May be required to travel locally and out of state to participate in conferences, workshops and

training.
