Job Description of Nurse Manager

St. Walburga Monastery is a small religious community with a non-licensed infirmary currently caring for 6 residents needing assisted living to complete care.

Nurse Manager reports to Director of Infirmary

Summary of Position:

The Nurse Manager oversees the provision of health care for each Sister and resident in the Infirmary. This individual must possess good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with her peers. It is important that compassionate care be combined with a strong work ethic and astute nursing and leadership skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*Identify health concerns, status changes and safety issues of the Sisters and resident and respond in a timely and efficient manner.

*Assess the medical needs of the Sisters and resident on a routine basis and schedule visits with physician every 2-3 months.

*Provide training to the Licensed Practical Nurses and Nurses’ Aides as needed.

*Ensure that all nursing supplies are adequately stocked and available.

* Set standards for proper infection control and safety precautions.

*Seek out opportunities for improvement in the workplace, and collaborate with the Director of Infirmary to find solutions to problems that may arise.

*Utilize expertise in the leadership role as a manager to include: completing bi-weekly timesheets, interviewing and hiring of new personnel and setting up orientation of new hires.

*Collaborate with the Director of the Infirmary in maintaining adequate nursing coverage to provide safe nursing care 24/7; effectively utilizing existing manpower and limiting overtime.

*Implement the process of progressive counseling and when necessary, recommend or initiate disciplinary action based on nursing or facility policies and procedures.

Position Requirements:

Licensed Registered Nurse in New Jersey

Minimum of five years of experience in a long-term care facility, leadership experience preferred but not required.

Strong clinical background in direct patient care of adults.

Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.

Compassionate, competent nurse with the ability to problem solve.

Knowledge and implementation of Infection Control practices as applicable.

BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Culturally competent and able to manage and educate staff of a variety of ages and backgrounds.
