Job Summary: The Building Automation Technician will be responsible for the installation support, maintenance, startup, configuration, and repair of building automation systems. This role involves ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and effectively to optimize building performance, energy consumption, and occupant comfort. A key focus of this position is conducting performance verification testing to ensure system reliability and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Installation and Maintenance:
    • Support Install teams, program, configure, network addressing, integration, and calibrate building automation systems and associated devices.
    • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of building automation systems, including HVAC, lighting, and security systems.
    • Ensure systems are operating efficiently and in compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  2. System Monitoring and Optimization:
    • Monitor building automation systems to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
    • Adjust system parameters and settings to improve performance and reduce energy consumption.
    • Identify and implement system improvements and upgrades.
  3. Performance Verification Testing:
    • Conduct performance verification testing of building automation systems to validate proper operation and efficiency.
    • Develop and execute test plans to assess system performance against design specifications and standards.
    • Document and report test results, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
  4. Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
    • Provide technical support to facility managers and other stakeholders.
    • Diagnose and resolve issues with building automation systems.
    • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for advanced troubleshooting and repairs.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of system installations, maintenance, and repairs.
    • Prepare reports on system performance, energy usage, and maintenance activities.
    • Document changes to system configurations and settings.
  6. Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and building codes.
    • Follow established safety procedures and protocols.
    • Participate in safety training and drills as required.
  7. Training and Development:
    • Stay updated on the latest developments in building automation technology.
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
    • Train other staff and clients on the operation and maintenance of building automation systems.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate degree or technical certification in Building Automation, HVAC, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in building automation systems, HVAC control systems, or related field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in programming and configuring building automation systems.
    • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and control theory.
    • Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, and other communication protocols.
  • Performance Verification:
    • Experience in conducting performance verification testing and system commissioning.
    • Ability to develop and execute detailed test plans.
    • Proficiency in analyzing test data and reporting results.
  • Computer Literacy:
    • Proficiency in using computer software for building automation system management and reporting.
    • Knowledge of programming languages and software tools related to building automation systems.
    • Experience with database management and data analysis.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Building Automation Professional (CBAP) or equivalent are preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods.
