Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Compliance Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leasing compliance, a deep understanding of affordable housing programs, and the ability to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish. This role involves significant interaction with applicants, city and state agencies, and requires a strong commitment to serving low-income populations.
Key Responsibilities:
Applicant and Agency Interaction:
- Engage with applicants and various city and state agencies to ensure compliance and smooth operations.
Compliance Review:
- Conduct thorough reviews of tenant files and scans for compliance, including annual recertification and close-out memos.
- Handle compliance reviews for HDC/HPD approval and facilitate lease signings.
Certifications:
- Generate Initial and Annual Owner Certifications for HOME & LIHTC monitors, including processing monitoring fees.
Communication:
- Maintain regular communication with funders and syndicators, submitting monthly and quarterly rent rolls.
Administrative Duties:
- Manage high volumes of phone calls, scanning, emailing, filing, and maintaining files; follow up diligently.
Required Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish): Proficiency in both languages is mandatory.
- Leasing-Compliance Experience: Proven experience in leasing compliance is essential.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Affordable Housing Programs: Familiarity with programs like NYCHA, HPD, etc.
- Commitment: Demonstrated experience and/or commitment to working with low-income populations.
- Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Section 8.
- Computer Skills: Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Yardi Software: Experience with Yardi software is a plus.
- Team Player: Flexibility, creativity, and initiative to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Detail Oriented: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Communication Skills: Superior writing and analytical abilities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management.
