JOB SUMMARY

CSG is actively seeking an as-needed Senior Land Surveyor/Technical Reviewer to join our Bay Area Survey & Mapping Division CSG is an employee-owned company offering highly competitive salaries, strong training and employee development opportunities, and remote work opportunities. When necessary to work at an office, employees may work at any of our Bay Area offices located in Foster City, San Jose, and Pleasanton.

Responsibilities include performing general mapping review for Public Agency clients. The position is primarily an office survey position with flexible, work-from-home hours.

Functions include performing technical reviews of final maps, parcel maps, plats and legal descriptions. Additional functions include preparing redlines and written comments either in a lead capacity or in a direct supervisory capacity by supervising mapping review work performed by other staff members, and performing thorough quality control. Types of reviews include parcel maps, final / tract maps, and legal descriptions and plats. Projects include large and small subdivision, lot line adjustment and other land transaction applications submitted to our Public Agency Clients by private property owners and developers throughout California.

Other functions include:

  • Advising public agency clients on complex private land development issues
  • Coordinating directly with Public Works Directors, City Engineers, and City Attorneys
  • Training and mentoring of staff
  • Occasional supervision of topographic and boundary surveys in the Bay Area

With the exception of signing documents as Technical Reviewer or Acting City Surveyor, occasional meetings on-site or at CSG or client offices, mapping review and office survey work may be performed entirely remotely.

This is an as-needed position requiring a minimum of 4 hours per week, not-to-exceed 29 hours per week. Work hours are determined on a weekly basis and are based on your availability and schedule.

We only consider candidates living locally or within the State of CA. We do not pay any relocation expenses.


REQUIREMENTS

  • California PLS license.
  • 10+ years of general surveying experience; or 5+ years in a Contract City Surveyor/Technical Reviewer capacity
  • Prior experience in a supervisory role, training and mentoring staff.
  • Strong knowledge of the California Subdivision Map Act and Professional Land Surveyor’s Act
  • Strong knowledge of boundary control and retracement principles, interpreting land records and title information
  • Experience in preparing and/or reviewing legal descriptions & plats, parcel maps, tract maps, lot line adjustments, and easements for technical accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid California driver’s license

HIGHLY DESIRED

  • Prior experience as a City Surveyor or Contract City Surveyor/Technical Reviewer
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software (MS Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of static data collection using RTS
  • Proficiency in reducing and processing field notes and processing electronic survey data
  • Familiarity with GPS RTK equipment
  • Ability to lead a survey crew and troubleshoot issues with equipment
  • Ability to develop scopes of work for office or field surveys, and define project parameters

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Driving to job sites and be able to walk in and through job sites for extended periods.
  • Lifting and carrying equipment up to 35lbs.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Working with detailed, finely printed documents.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment when dealing with deadlines and multiple projects.
