We’re looking for a bright, determined, and self-motivated proposal writer who is looking to grow their professional skills. OST consultants make the winning difference for our clients, and we often must fill multiple roles on the proposal team in order to get to a winning product. OST has no room for proposal writers with boundaries. We must do whatever it takes to develop an outstanding proposal, sometimes developing graphics, or finalizing sections, or formatting the document, or researching and writing material for a non-compliant section. OST competes at the highest level of government contracting, and you will work along side some of the best proposal and capture professionals in the industry.

2 Position

This is a full-time position in our spacious Rockville office, with opportunities to visit clients and participate in events in the Washington, DC area. We are all working remotely due to COVID-19.

3 Your Job

Your main responsibility will be to support our client’s proposals as a consultant. You will contribute to the proposal team by producing compliant, compelling, and technically accurate proposals delivered by the Government’s deadline. You must be able to take ownership of the content and be responsible for completing your assigned sections. You will also interview subject matter experts to capture accurate technical information and turn that material into a highly compelling proposal sections.

You will need higher-level brain functions to “connect the dots” in order to develop a great proposal. The Proposal Writer’s tasks are to:

  • Contribute to the proposal effort—responsible for organizing information into a compliant, compelling, and technically accurate proposal delivered on schedule.
  • Understand RFP requirements, modifications, and other RFP-related material impacts on the proposal.
  • Research the RFP to create a proposal section plan.
  • Prepare for and participate in the proposal kickoff.
  • Understand proposal direction from the Proposal/Capture Manager, and lead proposal research, participate in solution brainstorming, interview SMEs for hot buttons (win themes), and meet tight, inflexible deadlines.
  • Use proposal collaborative workspace (such as SharePoint) in a highly structured format to ensure productive workflow, straightforward access to various sections, and version control of proposal-related information.
  • Effectively integrate proposal themes, discriminators, hot buttons, and messaging for assigned proposal section.
  • Coordinate timely delivery and receipt of all required inputs to meet internal schedules and the proposal due date.
  • Help organize and participate in proposal reviews (Pink Team, Red Team, Gold Team, and other reviews).
  • Recover proposal section based on recommendations and direction from all reviews.
  • Perform ongoing in-process reviews of the proposal content.
  • Help edit, format (DTP), and produce proposal sections, as required.
  • Ensure completion of proposal sections according to the schedule.
  • Participate in post-proposal activities such as the Lessons Learned, discussions, orals, Final Proposal Revision (FPR), and Government debrief.

4 Required Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in business, marketing, journalism, writing, or related field.
  • Minimum 1 years of experience of writing proposals to the Federal Government.
  • Exceptional command of written and spoken English.
  • Professional knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to simplify and effectively communicate complex, technical concepts/ideas into easy-to-understand proposal content.
  • Seeks continuous improvement and learning opportunities.
