About this position
The substitute associate teacher supports other teaching staff by implementing curriculum and facilitating enriching classroom experiences while ensuring a safe and caring environment for the enrolled children. This role is responsible for following agency policies, providing supervision for enrolled children, and maintaining a quality program. What you’ll be doing
While in the classroom:
- Substituting as needed and directed by the education coordinator;
- Adjusting to the schedule and needs of the site where assigned;
- Being flexible in daily assignments and being ready to change site assignments if necessary;
- Assisting in planning and implementing preschool program based on the HighScope curriculum;
- Supervising and interacting with children in a positive manner;
- Maintaining learning centers that reflect the interests and needs of the children enrolled in the program;
- Providing a wide variety of experiences for children with an emphasis on active learning;
- Providing a well-supervised and safe environment;
- Using sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with children, parents, and staff;
- Reading and implementing all agency and program policies and procedures;
- Encouraging language development and respect for language diversity in classroom and community;
- Accomplishing other duties, as assigned, to create and maintain a quality preschool program;
- Working effectively with other team members;
- Actively participating in in-service training;
- Cooperating with the site director in planning, supervising, and implementing the overall program;
- Planning or participating in planning and implementing parent meetings and activities;
- Providing a clean and sanitary facility (inside and out) on a daily basis according to the agency’s center-based checklist;
- Promoting full enrollment and participating in recruitment of children as directed;
- Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis and according to agency policies and procedures;
- Assisting the site director and teacher as needed;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
While in the classroom:
- Answering telephones and taking accurate messages;
- Providing program information to inquiring families;
- Light typing as needed;
- Interacting with office and teaching staff in a positive manner;
- Handling family and office files appropriately and confidentially;
- Assisting the family services manager and/or education coordinator as directed.
What you bring to the table
- Child development associate teacher permit;
- Eighteen months of experience working with children;
- Current certification in pediatric CPR (yearly), pediatric first aid (yearly) and preventive health that is acceptable to community care licensing (Health and Safety code 1596.866);
- Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
- Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese (preferred);
- California driver's license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance.
