Facility Safety Technician

Job Overview:
A manufacturing facility is seeking a full-time Facility Safety Technician at its Croswell location. This role involves supporting the safety team by collecting data, maintaining safety equipment, and assisting in the evaluation and implementation of safety programs. You will be responsible for conducting workplace inspections and ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards. Additionally, you will serve as a key point of contact for employees and management regarding safety issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Safety and Safety Supervisors with the implementation and maintenance of safety programs.
  • Provide support to the Site Safety Supervisor with tasks such as:
    • Conducting inspections and inventories of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Organizing and tracking completed safety permits and forms.
    • Setting up and maintaining atmospheric monitors.
    • Assembling and maintaining lockout/tagout (LOTO) kits.
    • Managing first aid kit inventories and restocking supplies as needed.
    • Inspecting and testing emergency eyewash stations and showers.
    • Performing fire extinguisher inspections.
    • Maintaining accurate safety records for the site.
    • Coordinating annual respirator fit testing and audiometric testing.
  • Participate in site safety inspections and collaborate with management to address any safety issues in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a member of the site safety committee, supporting the Site Safety Supervisor.
  • Work with management to resolve safety issues identified through the company’s safety reporting program.
  • Provide continuous support for all safety-related initiatives at the site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience in general industry or construction, with a focus on safety responsibilities. A bachelor’s degree in safety or a related field may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections and identifying hazards in production environments.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other software such as Adobe and ADP.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

  • Ability to effectively influence and motivate employees to follow safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant MIOSHA and federal safety legislation and compliance requirements.
