This is what we'd like you to do:

The primary function of the VP of Business Services is for developing and executing comprehensive business lending and deposit strategies that deliver on Kirtland Credit Union’s mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives. You will strategically grow revenues by providing needs-based solutions and services to new and existing members. You will need to support and provide exceptional internal and external member experiences. Inspiring your team to perform at the highest level through effective leadership activities will ensure your success in the position. This role will maintain focus on strategic levels of risk and implement sound internal controls to protect loan assets. You will actively participate in various credit and risk related committees. Analysis of business loan and deposit portfolio growth and related risk management and ensuring regulatory compliance to best serve Kirtland CU and its members.


These are what your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining risk management processes and controls necessary to conduct business lending and deposit services in a safe and sound manner.
  • Partners with the Chief Lending Officer (CLO) in developing strategies including short and long-term goals and plans for business lending and business deposit services.
  • Establishes goals and a system of controls and monitors planning and budgeting activities to ensure consistency with the overall strategic plan.
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards that are consistent with the strategies of KCU. Monitors adherence to sound credit practices and policy and procedure administration. Updates the business lending underwriting guidelines, as appropriate.
  • Develops business loan and deposit portfolios by identifying, analyzing, and pursuing new business opportunities; implementing new products and services; establishing business relationships with the owners/managers of local businesses. Promotes KCU’s products and services while ensuring exceptional service.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of existing systems and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency, support of digital delivery strategy, and legal compliance. Instigates improvements in business loan and deposit services practices which will further the objectives of KCU.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective administration of business lending and deposit functions.
  • Leads team to promptly and accurately analyze financial statements and tax returns relative to new loan requests and periodic reviews.
  • Monitors and evaluates work quality, efficiency, and productivity. Ensures that completed work is of the highest quality. Provides suggestions for improved service delivery and business portfolio management. Seeks new methods to support KCU’s strategic objectives.
  • Actively participates in Operational Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) to provide rate recommendations, industry updates, and economic trends affecting the business loan and deposit industry.
  • Actively participates in Credit Committee, Loan Charge Off Committee (LCOC), and the Credit Risk Analytics Committee (CRAC).
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of business loan and deposit functions.
  • Meets with and interviews potential borrowers to consider loan requests. Discusses loan programs, alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, etc. Makes underwriting decisions according to the lending authority set forth by Credit Committee. Directs completion of loan documents and closes loans.
  • Monitors loan portfolio for changes in borrowers’ risk profile via reviews of current financial information and loan documentation. Recommends action steps to mitigate or improve any deterioration.
  • Effectively leads member business lending and deposit teams, ensuring optimal performance.

Required Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of business loan and deposit services requirements and documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of income property and construction lending.
  • Understanding of collections procedures and related legal actions.
  • Familiarity with property management or non-owner occupied commercial real estate.
  • Understanding of Real Estate Appraisal techniques (commercial) and title issues.

Can you to bring to the table:

  • Four-year college degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Minimum five progressive experience in business lending and deposit services activities.
  • Portfolio management preferred.
  • Five years of management experience in business or commercial lending highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing, implementing, and evaluating efficiency, workflow, and automation.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, implementing business loan goals and objectives.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Proven track records with meeting and exceeding production goals and driving results.
