The Public Health Immunization Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient administration, documentation, and management of Outbreak Response and ACIP-recommended immunizations including COVID-19 and their records for our patients and community. This position will work closely with clinic nursing staff, patients, and others within the department to facilitate the immunization process and maintain accurate records. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are extremely important to support program success in improving immunization rates and immunization record retention in Galveston County.

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent with 2 years related work experience, associate degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in a clinical setting with cash handling is preferred.
  • COVID/Public Health or related experience is highly desirable.
  • Data entry and software proficiency including Microsoft products.
  • Ability for spur-of-the-moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles.
  • Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • A Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules, including evenings or weekends when needed.
  • Must comply with GCHD Immunizations policy.
  • Must comply with ICS training requirements.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening.

 

An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.

 

Traditional Duties:

  • Greet and register eligible patients for immunizations.
  • Check immunization records (local EMR, paper records, and ImmTrac2) for CDC/State/School compliance and identify immunization needs.
  • Verify patient information, and vaccine details, and ensure the completion of accurate and comprehensive documentation including eligibility screening of every patient receiving vaccine.
  • Use problem-solving skills to resolve discrepancies in data and vaccine records.
  • Enter patient information into the required databases.
  • Assist the Immunizations Program Manager with program activities.
  • Assists with planning and implementing mobile vaccine clinics and outreaches.
  • Answer and place phone calls as required regarding immunization history and vaccines including COVID-19.
  • Participate in community outreach events as needed.-.
  • Generate standard reports from database systems.
  • Working the phone bank or other designated tasks during a real-world event.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
