Job Summary: The Construction Yard Assistant/Mechanic supports daily operations in a construction yard by performing a range of tasks related to equipment maintenance, yard organization, and general assistance. This role involves hands-on work with construction machinery, tools, and materials, ensuring that equipment is in good working order and that the yard is well-maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on construction equipment and machinery, including trucks, loaders, and excavators.
- Inspect equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Replace worn or damaged parts as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
Yard Organization:
- Organize and manage inventory of construction materials and tools.
- Ensure the yard is clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and materials.
- Operate forklifts or other machinery to move materials as required.
General Assistance:
- Support construction crews by delivering tools and equipment to job sites.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment and materials.
- Help with the preparation and assembly of construction materials.
- Provide general labor support, such as cleaning and clearing debris from job sites.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Report safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a construction yard or mechanical maintenance role preferred.
- Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of construction equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical condition and ability to lift heavy materials.
