CNC Punch Press Operator

1st Shift Monday - Friday 5:30am-2:00pm


Section I. General Overview & Reporting:

The CNC Punch Press Operator is responsible for setting up and operating the CNC Punch (Amada Vipros), making products to exact specifications, per plan and customer requirements.


Section II. Duties & Areas of Responsibility:

The primary duties of the CNC Punch Press Operator consist of, but are not limited to, the following:


  1. Health & Safety
    1. Consistently adhere to all health & safety policies and practices, including wearing proper PPE at all times
      1. Follow all machine & equipment safety protocols, ensuring factory standard safety mechanisms are in place & being utilized
      2. Operators following safe practices (correct speed, utilization, seatbelts, protocols, etc.)
    2. Maintain tidy, clutter-free and obstacle-free work zones
    3. Proactively identify safety risks in the work area, and advise management
    4. Recommend resolutions to safety concerns & participate in implementation
    5. Follow a "safety first" culture with a "zero accidents" goal
    6. Follow lock-out/tag out procedures when maintaining machines
    7. Immediately notify management or HR of any safety incidences (accidents, or near misses)
    8. Pandemic or other health concerns protocol:
      1. If exhibiting any pandemic-related symptoms, stay home, advise supervisor, get tested, and follow any other recommended protocols
      2. Pre-shift temperature taking - comply with temperature-taking protocol before going to assigned work area; if temp is over defined maximum, immediately advise supervisor and follow all protocols
      3. Wear masks or other prescribed PPE
      4. Maintain social distancing (work, break, common areas, etc.)
      5. Thoroughly complete all shift end cleaning (work areas cleaned and sanitized) before leaving work area
  1. Equipment Operation
    1. Carefully review plans and orders to ensure accuracy
    2. Setup and operate CNC punch (Amada Vipros)
    3. Setup and position tooling per setup sheet
    4. Ensure machine is operating correctly
    5. Advise maintenance and management of any machine operations concerns
  2. Ensure quality and production standards are safely maintained
    1. Use calipers to check work within +/-.005.
    2. Inspect product via scanning process
    3. Meet or exceed production standards (on time and accurate)
    4. Advise team leadership or management of any delays or concerns regarding quality and timeliness
  3. Maintain order and cleanliness in department
  4. Communicate daily with department lead/supervisor and other shifts regarding safety issues and production status
  5. Input data into system to document job performance versus job travelers (work order) with required production data

Section III: Necessary Skills and Attributes:

  • Prior CNC punch press experience, including setup, required
  • Experience with a CNC Amada punch and laser a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Quality focused
  • High School diploma/GED
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail

Section IV: Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a factory, non-climate controlled, warehouse environment (heat, cold, dust, etc.)
  • Must be able to work standing for prolonged periods of time, stooping, bending, and in squatting position
  • Visual acuity required to read plans, orders, blueprints, machine setup, written documents, etc.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity required for handling materials, setting up equipment, etc.
