General Accountant

The day to day

(italics indicate essential function)

  • You love preparing monthly financial statements and reporting packages. You go the extra mile in your analysis and identify anomalies and useful trends.
  • You find the story in the numbers, and you share your insights with the Financial Accounting Manager and the CFO.
  • It’s the details: you take ownership of the general ledger, including all account and report maintenance, input of all journal entries, and reconciliation. You also prepare the supporting schedules and analyses.
  • You know taxes. You prepare or advise on sales and use tax, payroll tax, and property taxes.
  • They come once per year, but they’re big – you assist with the annual budgeting process, audit, and internal audit process. You coordinate and execute the internal branch audits.
  • You coordinate the management of fixed assets, including fixed asset requisition approval process, the maintenance of Construction in Process (CIP) assets, and capitalization and depreciation of capitalized assets.
  • You own the corporate credit card program and make sure processes are followed.

What you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • DEEP knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Team members can look to you for guidance.
  • Accuracy. You notice if something seems “not right,” and you are careful in your work because so much depends on having the right numbers.
  • A mind for analyzing data. The ability to speak up when that data needs to be brought to someone’s attention.
  • You already know Microsoft applications, and you are ready and willing to learn any company software or system. You are a resource for your team with Excel.
  • You have a willingness to learn new things and take on new responsibilities.
  • You know that there are busy times in Accounting, and you are fully prepared to work longer hours when needed.
