Smoking Pig BBQ is now hiring a captain for all Events and Catering/Banquets. We are a well-known Bay area BBQ restaurant and won a lot of prize including the most recent best catering in the silicon valley in 2023. We are looking for individuals who have a basic understanding and are comfortable with food service. A strong ability to self-manage, comfortable driving catering vans, with a flexible weekly schedule consisting of weekdays, weeknights, and weekends. Shift schedule will be determined based on client event needs and company calendar. We would welcome the opportunity to speak to you regarding this position as well as to answer any questions you might have regarding the company.

The Catering captain will be reporting directly to the Catering Manager. Must be an independent self-starter with a good driving record. The candidate in this position will be spending most of their time planning, preparing, packing, executing corporate catering independently, lead server responsibilities at our off-premise events, daily account deliveries and setups, and assistance with the deliveries of our daily catering events as well as inventory management. During slow periods, ancillary duties will be performed both off and on-premise to assist the company where needed. Coordination of service needs to the Sales, Operations and Kitchen Departments is also critical for the success of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Smoking Pig BBQ.
  • Determines workload requirements from catering orders.
  • Meets with function group leaders to discuss setup arrangements; addresses last-minute changes and resolves problems.
  • Lead Server and/or Captain at off-premise events.
  • Interacts with customers and resolves complaints in a service-oriented manner.
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of menu items.
  • Instructs staff on work expectations for catered functions.
  • Helps staff set up rooms to desired specifications.
  • Assembles and delivers food and supplies to scheduled locations.
  • Serves food and beverages to guests.
  • Returns food, beverages, serving equipment and utensils to catering facility.
  • Ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of serving temperatures; follows HACCP standards.
  • Maintains sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils.
  • Ensures proper food preparation by following approved recipes and production standards.
  • Record sales or delivery information on daily sales or delivery record.
  • Inspect catering vans daily for loading requirements and cleanliness. Keep vans clean inside and out as per determined schedule.
  • Key contributor in the process of loading and unloading of each individual van. Re-stocking and placing all equipment, and returning product while effectively overseeing and executing the follow-through of this process to completion.
  • Full product knowledge.
  • Provide sales promotion materials to customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Possess suitable communications skills to create a positive interaction experience with our guests.
  • Possess a valid state driving license and clean driving records
  • Must possess or able to obtain a valid food handler's permit and/or alcohol servers permit where required by state law.
  • Able to read a map and interpret written directions
  • Basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and make change
  • Able to work in a sitting while driving, standing, and walking position with frequent changes between positions
  • Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 30 pounds
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • Able to fire, cook and drive smoker/trailer is a plus
