The IT Systems Specialist is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and managing the organizations' server, backup, and user account management systems. This position is also responsible for serving as a second-tier resource to the help desk and is also responsible for managing and maintaining the help desk, inventory management, and knowledge base systems. As an IT Systems Specialist, resourcefulness is a necessary skill. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems in a timely manner. You should also have patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users. This position should also have experience in IT project management as one additional role of this position will be to work with vendors and consultants to implement information technology projects within the organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for managing and maintaining the corporate backup and recovery system. This includes developing and implementing the backup schedule and maintaining off-site backups. Ensures that proper backup and disaster recovery policies and procedures are in place, functioning properly and periodically tested and reviewed for designated systems.

Implements, configures, and maintains the server environment (including but not limited to the Operating Systems, Virtualization Software, and Server Hardware). This includes setting up new servers, as well as making sure load-balancing and high-availability are running on the virtual environment.

Provides management of the company's Active Directory environment including account creation, Oice365 Administration, and Microsoft Exchange O365 administration. Also responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining on-boarding and off-boarding procedures for employees.

Responsible for documenting procedures for deploying products in the area of responsibility in a manner such that future deployment and re-deployments are repeatable with a high degree of success. Responsible for writing technical design documents and building documentation for all aspects of technical systems.

Responsible for managing and maintaining the asset management system. This includes adding new assets to the systems as acquired as well as performing disposal of assets in the system as needed.

Responsible for maintaining and managing the help desk software, inventory management software, and the knowledge base software. This includes creating reports in these systems, approving knowledge base articles and keeping them updated, as well as performing software updates to these systems.

Comply with all company policies, procedures, and service standards. Comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

All other job responsibilities as assigned by management.

Knowledge and SkillsExperience

Three to five years of Information Technology experience with an emphasis in Systems Administration. Formal training in vmWare, Windows Server, Active Directory, and backup and replication systems preferred.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Management Information System is required.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. Ability to communicate information of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating, and/or advising others on matters of significance. Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships with team members and members to ensure we are achieving the overall mission and vision of the credit union. Incorporate core values into daily activities and decisions.

ADA RequirementsPhysical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May occasionally need to lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.


Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal to moderate noise.
