Job Description:

  • Full-time, 12 months
  • Responsible for implementing and overseeing quality instruction in Head Start, California State Preschool Program (CSPP), or General Childcare and Development (CCTR) programs
  • Develop age-appropriate programs for children
  • Effectively work with children, families, and administration/staff
  • Adhere to state and federal guidelines

Compensation:

$22 - $24 per hour

Responsibilities:
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that celebrates diversity in gender, culture, and family composition, fostering acceptance and respect.
  • Ensure a variety of materials and equipment are available and regularly rotated to support children's learning and development.
  • Develop and implement an outdoor curriculum that integrates indoor components to enhance children's physical and social growth.
  • Utilize the Environmental Rating Scale tool to evaluate and enhance the quality of the classroom environment.
  • Design high-quality lesson plans aligned with The Creative Curriculum to support children's learning.
  • Observe and document children's developmental progress using the Child Plus DRDP (Desired Results Developmental Profile 2015) assessment tool.
  • Evaluate each child's development using the Desired Results Developmental Profile 2015 (DRDP 15).
  • Create personalized education plans with specific developmental goals and activities for individual children.
  • Implement strategies based on CLASS domains and dimensions to encourage positive teacher-child interactions.
  • Conduct comprehensive developmental and mental health screenings using the (ASQ) Ages and Stages Questionnaire system.
  • Administer ASQ assessments within 45 days of a child's enrollment and collaborate with parents on completing age-appropriate assessments.
  • Utilize the Teaching Pyramid approach to support social-emotional development and address challenging behaviors.
  • Establish consistent daily schedules, predictable routines, and smooth transitions for children.
  • Ensure the safety, health, and nutrition of all children in compliance with regulations.
  • Provide continuous supervision to maintain a secure environment for children.
  • Develop and execute care and supervision plans tailored to the classroom and playground.
  • Support food service by adhering to CACFP policies and providing snacks and meals.
  • Maintain accurate records of meal counts and adhere to health practices including handwashing and medication administration.
  • Assess indoor and outdoor environments and complete required tasks promptly.
  • Implement emergency plans and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Foster positive daily communication with families and participate in parent conferences and meetings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet classroom expectations and support Family Engagement staff.
  • Uphold the agency's mission and values and promote teamwork within the classroom and agency.
  • Pursue continuous professional growth and maintain a current California child development permit.
  • Demonstrate efficiency in time and material management while ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:
  • The Head Start BA/AA Teacher in Stockton, CA should possess a Current California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher.
  • A minimum of an AA degree in Child Development or a related field is required for this position, with a preference for candidates holding a Bachelor's degree.
  • If working with children from birth to three years old, the candidate should have three infant/toddler units.
  • Two years of relevant experience teaching or working with children aged 0-5 and their families is necessary.
  • Basic computer skills and internet use are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with families and coworkers.
  • The candidate should be able to communicate with compassion and without judgment.
  • The ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply policies, rules, and regulations is necessary. - Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • The Head Start BA-AA Teacher should be physically capable of responding to children's needs, emergencies, and conflicts in a childcare center environment.
  • The candidate should be able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs. in a repetitive manner.
  • Physical capability to assist children and ensure their safety in the play area is required.
  • The candidate should be able to crouch, squat, sit, and stand on the floor for up to 30 minutes to interact with children.
  • The ability to handle commotion, high noise levels, and daily pressures of the center is necessary.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
