POSITION TITLE: Shelby County Canvasser

DEPARTMENT: External Affairs

REPORTS TO: Field Organizer

STATUS: Temp -Contract 1099/$25/Hourly

Job Summary:

Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi is looking for canvassers to knock on doors and talk to our community about voter registration, non-partisan Get Out The Vote efforts, and storytelling about reproductive health. Canvassers may also conduct canvassing shifts with Tennessee Advocates for Planned Parenthood to talk with voters in support of candidates who support reproductive rights.

The Shelby County canvasser is a skilled communicator who engages in door-to-door contact with voters to educate, inform and rally the vote for endorsed candidates who will protect our right to make our own health care decisions about their reproductive healthcare and maintain bodily autonomy. Tennessee currently has one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.

COVID VACCINATION REQUIREMENT FOR CANDIDATES SEEKING EMPLOYMENT:

PPTNM, as both a healthcare provider and a participant of Medicare/Medicaid, is subject to certain laws, regulations and orders requiring its workforce to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and its variants. PPTNM has therefore implemented a requirement that all employees be fully vaccinated. Candidates seeking employment with PPTNM will be required to: (1) be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and its variants by their start date. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law, and (2) submit proof of vaccination by their start date as a condition of employment with PPTNM.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the public in a friendly and professional manner by going door-to-door in target neighborhoods

  • Deliver a compelling campaign message, and collect complete survey answers from voters

  • Participate in trainings to improve outreach skills

  • Is a responsible individual and completes shifts/canvassing lists in a timely manner

  • Good communication skills with internal staff

The ideal candidate:

  • Passionate about social change and fostering democracy

  • Strong communication skills; you should enjoy working with other people and be willing and excited to speak voters

  • Hard worker who will complete shifts and communicate with the local Field Organizer

  • Prior door-to-door canvassing experience is a plus but not required.

Skills:

  • Outgoing and comfortable talking with the public, walking around neighborhoods and knocking on doors.

  • Responsible, punctual, self-motivated, and strong passion for politics and changes.

  • Bilingual is a plus.

  • Strong verbal and customer service skills.
