Position Summary:

The Community Support Worker promotes mental health and addresses behavioral health issues within the service population, working directly with children and adolescents. The role involves facilitating client transitions to independence, endorsing community resources, and providing information and referral services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate post-placement services and comprehensive case management for unaccompanied children (UC).
  • Complete individualized needs assessments and develop case plans, considering culture, language, and special circumstances.
  • Manage a caseload of 25-40 cases.
  • Maintain high standards of record-keeping per USCRI and ORR policies.
  • Provide information, education, referrals, outreach, advocacy, and support to ensure each child receives necessary services.
  • Continuously assess placement safety and appropriateness using child welfare principles and social work best practices through phone/video calls, interviews, and home visits.
  • Build a network of local pro bono legal resources and service providers for UC and sponsors, and track individual progress.
  • Coordinate and maintain communication with key stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular training and communication sessions with the supervisor and headquarters staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and one to two years of related experience.
  • Practical knowledge and skill in providing a range of therapeutic techniques and skill-building interventions.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy, complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline.
  • Must meet established productivity standards.
  • Strong charting/documentation skills utilizing an electronic medical record.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
