Product Sales Engineer

SUMMARY: The Product Sales Engineer’s primary function is to provide an inside sales presence to all customers including providing quotes, writing up orders, negotiating sales, and value engineering projects. Secondly, this role will estimate projects and perform material take‐offs from plans and specifications or customer erection drawings and identify bid scope. This position will determine job complexity, interpret the course of actions, and communicate with our customer and appropriate OGI and family of company’s departments. In addition, he or she will be responsible for maintaining and further developing relationships with our current customer base and new clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Gain in-depth knowledge of the company's products and services, understanding technical specifications, features, and benefits
Reads, interprets, and reviews grating products on Contract Drawings, and or erection drawings
Read and interpret specifications and identify project specific requirements from related bid documents
Works with the team to establish the best possible product for each given project including our Product Development Engineering team
Determines quantities and costs on individual projects while working with our customers and product development team as required
Maintain proper tracking of all projects, bidders’ lists, and special projects within the market segment
Collaborate with all associates involved in sales estimating and sales quoting to maximize quoting accuracy, process efficiency, and sales profitability
Creates and submits quotes in response to bid opportunities
Perform all necessary follow-up with open quotes sent in bidding opportunities
Strong problem-solving skills to address customer challenges and provide effective solutions
Coordinate any project hand‐offs with the manufacturing manager in a timely, high-quality manner
Process sales order entry when POs are received
This role may require travel to customer locations for on-site support or presentations
Communication and Value Engineering:
Requires the ability to build relationships with customers
Communicate clearly with customers, managers, and other departments
Review and recommend specific products as needed and value-engineer where applicable
Takeoff:
Review drawings and specifications provided to develop an accurate material takeoff which is to scope and/or based on construction drawings and architectural plans
Ensure takeoff is based on the proper drawing and specification revisions or qualify cut list
Ensure the bid documents and scope of work are followed
Request needed buyout items from source vendors
Proposal:
Qualify all conflicts between drawings and specifications whether they are resolved with the customer prior to bidding or not
Clearly list all inclusions and exclusions found during the takeoff, qualifying anything being offered where discrepancies were found
Prepare qualified proposal per bid documents and per scope of work or customer erection drawings
Perform all other duties and cross-train as assigned
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES:
Needed:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S.); Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering
Demonstrated success in selling complex technical solutions
Passion for customer service and value engineering
Strong technical background with the ability to understand and explain complex technical concepts
Positive attitude, grit, and emotional intelligence to deal with conflicting interests
Proficient in the use of CRM systems for sales activity and data management
The ability to establish and maintain a strong rapport and positive relationships with customers and internal associates on all levels
Must be strategic in orientation, proactive, persistent, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, as well as work within a very fast-paced environment
Must have strong computer skills including the ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of applications
Preferred:
Sales engineer experience – Experience in Selling Metals Preferred
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
Having some knowledge of the EPICOR ERP system
Advanced degree (Master’s or MBA) in a related field
