ASSOCIATE PRODUCT MANAGER - SOFTWARE

REPORTS TO: Product Manager II FLSA: Exempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Associate Product Manager - Software (APM) will provide the day-to-day technical product management activities to support internal and external customers on EFJohnson software product related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Become an expert on our advanced integrated radio and repeater telecommunications products and troubleshoot software issues.
  • Assist in development of new software products and features.
  • Work as an engineering and technical operations analyst to gather and analyze different software products and feature requirements for engineering.
  • Develop product specification of EFJohnson’s advanced telecommunication products.
  • Develop prototypes of new products and features. Define, implement, and analyze testing and collaborate with customers to get feedback on such early products.
  • Develop the engineering product compliance matrix that defines the technical compatibility between hardware, software, and accessories.
  • Manage the requirement gathering in Jira and work with engineering team to ensure requirements are properly scheduled for delivery.
  • Coordinate the beta testing of new products and features with customers. Captures feedback on software functionalities and drives that feedback into product development through engineering.
  • Work with IT team and manage the development of product catalog and perform product setup in configuration management for easy ordering.
  • Become the first point of contact for all internal product management technical and support needs.
  • Identify internal technical and operational support needs from field sales, marketing, engineering, and other sources and define alignment between business unit competencies and market/customer needs.
  • Be the product champion for the channel, inside sales and field service team with information regarding product offering, ordering, and technical features.
  • Coordinates/contributes to marketing collateral generation by providing the technical content for this collateral. Seeks feedback from sales, customers, and internal operations to initiate product refinements to maximize commercial success.
  • Provides RFP response assistance and direction related to technical requirements, product availability, pricing review, and identification of commitment liabilities.
  • Support strategic sourcing of products from new and existing vendors, discuss technical requirement of the products and ensure sourced product meet such technical requirements.
  • Perform analysis for the product and executive team on product sales, margin, and other analytical metrics.
  • Agrees to abide by the established Approval Matrix.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in engineering, information technology or business is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Engineering/Product Management or related field.

COMPETENCIES:

  • An open mind, willingness to collaborate & teamwork and passion to excel are key skills required in this role.
  • Comfortable with technical details and the ability to quickly gain in-depth product knowledge (e.g., features, capabilities, “how-to”, etc.).
  • Comfortable with dealing with complex technical details of products.
  • Being able to work with engineering team to develop software prototype and can demonstrate product functionalities to customers.
  • Possess ability to work with internal and external departments, vendors, and customers.
  • Ability to handle concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to schedule changes and re-prioritized responsibilities.
  • Proven expertise in Microsoft Office Applications such as word, excel and power point. Experience in software development in any language is a plus.
  • Expertise in web development and database technology such as SQL, python, UX/UI is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in using Jira for requirement management.
  • Must have good communication skills. Must be able to articulate ideas, analysis, and findings.
  • Knowledge of two-way radios & systems is a plus.
  • Competence in wireless systems technology, project management and business analysis are a plus.
