At Avalon, housing is a human right. Our mission is to build healthy, safe and inclusive supportive housing communities as a long-term solution to homelessness.
Avalon Housing is a non-profit supportive housing provider. Supportive housing is a combination of affordable housing paired with services, such as case management. We don't just help people find housing, we help people stay and thrive in their homes.

The Volunteer Program Coordinator Vista member will work closely with the Employee Experience Department to help build a sustainable and lasting volunteer program. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will build capacity by increasing the number of regular volunteers and by developing and implementing a volunteer retention plan.
Increase the capacity of Avalon Housing's Volunteer Program
Member Activities:
1. Increase the number of regular volunteers at Avalon by (at least) 18 during the course of the year.
a. Expand our volunteer recruitment network and sources, working with individuals and groups (at least two new sources/partnerships)
b. Work with staff to design and implement volunteer opportunities/roles at Avalon by (at least) two
2. Develop and implement a volunteer retention plan
a. Overhaul and update the Volunteer Handbook
b. Implement a volunteer recognition/appreciation program
Identify, engage, and train volunteers to be able to lead a food pantry program.
Member Activities:
1. Observe and review food pantry operation and define volunteer roles
2. Develop and implement a recruitment and training program for food pantry volunteers, with the goal of creating a volunteer-led program.
- Network with various volunteer recruitment sources, including groups such as churches or businesses
3. Tailor aspects of the Volunteer Retention plan to specifically support the food pantry in a sustainable way

Location: This position and office is based in Ann Arbor, MI.
Status: Full-time position
Vista Benefits
Approx. $22,880 living allowance for the year
- $877.66 per paycheck; direct deposit from AmeriCorps
- May be eligible for public assistance
Housing Stipend
- $400/month sent from MCAH to the members' landlords
Sick/Vacation Days
- Ten sick days, ten vacation days
- Federal holidays observed by the site
End of Service Benefits
- $7,395 Education Award of $1,800 Cash Stipend
- Non-Competitive Eligibility Status for 12 Months
