We are dedicated to creating supportive housing environments as a sustainable approach to combat homelessness.
Our organization operates food pantries at various locations, providing essential services to those in need. If you possess flexibility, a passion for helping others, and thrive in dynamic settings, we encourage you to consider this volunteer opportunity. Volunteers will collaborate with the Community Building team and resident groups to manage all facets of pantry operations, including setup, food collection, and cleanup. Food pantry hours are Monday through Friday from 9 AM to noon.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Setup Duties
- Maintain weekly temperature logs for refrigeration units.
- Prepare bags for food pickups and deliveries.
- Sort and discard expired or spoiled items from previous distributions.
- Retrieve food items from storage for pantry use.
- Assist with unloading deliveries from suppliers.
- Organize and display food items in the designated shopping area.
Food Distribution Responsibilities
- Oversee the pickup line while ensuring social distancing protocols are followed.
- Prepare bags for clients' orders.
- Input client information into the database.
- Support coordinators in loading food into vehicles for delivery.
Cleanup Duties
- Store any leftover food appropriately in storage areas.
- Sanitize tables and kitchen surfaces.
- Break down and recycle boxes.
- Dispose of trash and replace liners.
- Clean and maintain flooring.
- Restock and sanitize restroom facilities.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to engage effectively with diverse populations in a respectful manner.
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative spirit.
- Positive attitude and a strong commitment to assisting those in need.
- A minimum commitment of six months is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Volunteers should be prepared to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
