We are currently searching for an experienced Accounting Manager/Controller to join our team and provide their expertise.


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.


Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of professional, relevant experience, proven experience as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or similar position

  • CPA preferred

  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (preferably Oracle, Workday, NetSuite or equivalent)

  • Experience with ERP systems implementations

  • Proficiency with designing and implementing analytical/reporting solutions (preferably Microsoft BI, Oracle Smart View, Noetix and/or similar products)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standards (GASB), and practices of accounting and financial reporting

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, including the ability to explain complex financial issues to a variety of audiences

  • Ability to manage, motivate and train a professional staff, including development of a team-based work environment

  • Ability to identify, research and reach effective conclusions to problems encountered in an accounting, auditing or similar background

  • Excellent communication skills and comfortable presenting to Senior Leadership team

  • Will be both detail-oriented and “hands-on" while also being able to contribute at a conceptual and strategic level

  • Ability to manage multiple deadline-driven assignments

  • Ability to work efficiently and proactively, with excellent attention to detail


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of best practice procedures for the month-end accounting close process to ensure timely and accurate preparation and issuance of the financial statements and supporting schedules.

  • Establish and maintain control procedures for processing and recording of all financial transactions to the general ledger.

  • Perform general ledger account analysis, review and update subledger activity and support; identify, investigate and resolve discrepancies and prepare adjusting journal entries.

  • Ensure compliance with revenue recognition policy by analyzing monthly revenues, deferred revenue, commissions and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately based on move-out date and adjust accordingly.

  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations for specific accounts and ensure staff accountants complete same for all other accounts.

  • Direct the work of staff accountants including the review and approval of all monthly journal entries, supporting analysis/documentation and balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Forecast weekly payroll expense by department and prepare payroll bank account funding request submitted to NY State Treasury.

  • Review monthly sales tax payments and file quarterly sales tax returns.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the fixed asset ledger, including assignment of project codes and monitoring the capitalization and depreciation. Lead annual project to conduct physical observation of all fixed assets, document the results, and adjust fixed asset ledger/general ledger for asset retirements not previously recorded.

  • Lead annual update and compilation of the 5-year Capital Project Funding Plan

  • Maintain the Corporation’s Chart of Accounts to enable proper classification of accounting transactions and facilitate accurate financial and management reporting of the Company’s operating results.

  • Assist in treasury functions including cash forecasting and working capital management.

  • Lead the general accounting workstream for any ERP/Finance software implementations or upgrades.

  • Implement, document and maintain processes to ensure adherence with accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP.

  • Research new GASB pronouncements annually to determine applicability. Develop an implementation plan and pro-forma impact to the financial results and annual report disclosure, if any. Review with the Controller before implementation.

  • Ensure all general accounting related internal controls over financial reporting are properly designed, fully documented, and reassessed annually to ensure they reflect all current processes, with the documentation updated as needed.

  • Plan, organize and ensure accounting data is prepared for the annual audit. Confirm with auditors all required supporting schedules; act as liaison between auditors and the Finance Department; assist in the preparation of the annual Audit Engagement Letter and year-end Management Representation Letter; receive and reply to auditor questions, investigating and resolving issues arising from audit, while seeking support from others as needed.

  • Coordinate the completion of the Annual Report. Develop a timeline, requirements checklist, and assign responsibility for each deliverable. Prepare year-end comparative financial statements and the accompanying footnotes/schedules. Assist as needed with the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A).

  • Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Corporation’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training coworkers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing and resolving workforce management issues.

  • Any other duties or ad hoc analysis and reporting assigned by the Controller and/or CFO.
