About You

As a Senior Communications Specialist, you will lead and manage strategic communications campaigns, oversee project management, and ensure the delivery of high-quality communications materials that align with TASB’s mission and values. This position is a Texas-based remote or Austin-based hybrid role.

A Typical Day

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive communications plans that support TASB’s strategic objectives and enhance its reputation among members and the public.
  • Produce and oversee the creation of high-level content for a variety of platforms, including print, digital, and social media, ensuring consistency and quality across all channels.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify communication opportunities and risks, and to craft appropriate strategies to address them.
  • Collaborate with marketing specialist as needed to produce compelling copy for ads or brochures.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Provide expert guidance and project management for strategic communications campaigns, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of accuracy and quality.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, creativity, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Analyze data and metrics to assess the effectiveness of communications campaigns and strategies, making data-driven recommendations for improvements.
  • Write engaging and accurate content for newsletters, social media, the website, videos and the association’s flagship magazine, Texas Lone Star.
  • Serve as a communications liaison with internal areas needing support with specific events, campaigns, and outreach efforts.
  • Create compelling and informative materials to support internal/external meetings and events, including PPT decks, brochures, handouts, and flyers.

Skills For Success

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree or additional certification in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in a communications role, with at least two years in a senior specialist capacity or as a team lead.
  • Prior experience as a communications specialist in a K-12 public education or nonprofit setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven experience in leading communications campaigns and managing projects in a complex organizational environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong project leadership abilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media management and digital communication tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Understanding of K-12 public education landscape and legislative processes and practices.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning skills, including an understanding of project management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience working in a content management system.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
