The Help Group's Village Glen School is an innovative, multidisciplinary, college preparatory day school specifically designed for students with challenges in the areas of socialization, communication and pragmatic language development, and peer relations, including autism, anxiety-related disorders, and non-verbal learning disabilities. Recognizing the strengths, challenges, and natural talents of each student, Village Glen promotes strong academic achievement and social and personal well-being.

The Help Group’s North Hills Prep, is a therapeutic school serving special education students grades 1-12 with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Using a humanistic, relationship-centered approach NHP teachers, therapists, administrators, and support staff form rich connections with students that provide a crucible for developing important self-awareness and interpersonal skills. Concurrently, academic development is made enjoyable with challenging curriculum, lively discussions, and an emphasis on Project-Based Learning (PBL).

IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESSES:

  • Bachelor's in education or a related field is required.
  • Special Education credential is required; OR the ability to qualify for an Intern Credential, Provisional Internship Permit or Short-Term Staff Permit.
  • Experience teaching students with autism and/or learning disabilities is preferred.
  • Strong behavior background.
  • Strong proficiency in managing difficult behaviors such as defiance, biting, scratching, punching, kicking and throwing objects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement individual student programs.
  • Select appropriate curriculum content for each student.
  • Determine appropriate, measurable goals and objectives for each student.
  • Implement positive behavior techniques effectively as necessary.
  • Write individual education plans (IEPs) and participate in IEP meetings.
  • Employ a trans-disciplinary approach to education, conferring with team members as appropriate for particular issues.
  • Prepare or secure necessary instructional materials.
  • Modify activities and adapt materials to promote student success.
  • Design and use instructional grouping patterns that are varied and flexible, including individual, small group, and whole class instruction.
  • Employ clear, predictable daily and weekly schedules, which accommodate students' needs.
  • Prepare a weekly plan book to detail lesson plans, grouping, activities, staff assignments, and other relevant information.
  • Employ appropriate, individualized teaching and reinforcement techniques to maximize student achievement.
