Job Title: Payroll and Benefits Administrator

Department: Human Resources

Reports to: Director of HR

FLSA Status: Hourly, non-exempt

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Payroll/Benefits Administrator is responsible for ensuring the timely payment of employee wages; issuing paychecks, creating salary sheets and reports, gathering and maintaining employee records, verifying work hours and pay rates, tracking employee absences, handling employee payment issues and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. The Payroll/Benefits Administrator works closely with other departments to provide customer-focused, effective service to the organization for the achievement of the organization's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculates payable hours, bonuses, tax withholdings, salaries, commissions and deductions
  • Initiates payment of employee wages via direct deposit
  • Analyzes payroll transactions and reports discrepancies as necessary
  • Collaborates with the plant admins to maintain employee data
  • Creates and distributes labor reports to the appropriate agency or department
  • Issues tax forms and related documentation and assists employees to complete them
  • Resolves issues employees have with timesheets, paystubs, and other payroll matters
  • Provides information and answers employee questions about payroll related matters
  • Manages benefit enrollment for new hires
  • Actively assists with annual benefit open enrollment
  • Reconciles benefit and payroll deductions
  • Responds to employment verification requests and unemployment claims
  • Reconciles monthly benefit carrier invoices
  • Manages electronic timekeeping systems and reviews timecards, submits temp agency timecards to the respective agency
  • Coordinates employee leave requests (i.e., FMLA, disability and worker's comp)
  • All other duties as assigned by management

  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years administrative experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous payroll, benefits administration and HR administrative experience, preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities

Work environment

  • Duties are performed in an on-site office setting

Minimum Hiring Requirements

  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
