Title: Sr. Proofreader Technical Writer III

Assignment Location(s): Newport, RI (onsite)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-level proofreading and editing of complex academic, professional, and technical publications.
  • Collaborate with government clients and stakeholders to ensure that all materials are aligned with the Chicago Manual of Style and NWC Press guidelines.
  • Oversee the production, quality control, and version management of manuscripts, books, journals, and other technical documents.
  • Mentor and provide directions to junior proofreaders and writers, ensuring editorial consistency.
  • Evaluate arguments, review and proofread for accuracy in style, grammar, spelling, and logical coherence.
  • Ensure deadlines are met for critical publications by managing the workflow and scheduling team efforts.

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience in an academic or professional publication environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or a related field.
  • Mastery of Chicago Manual of Style and familiarity with government documentation standards.
  • Proven ability to handle high-level editorial reviews and revisions.
  • Strong supervisory and team leadership skills.
  • Must be able to obtain a CAC card with the Department of Navy
