Business Intelligence Product Owner

Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) is looking to expand our Business Intelligence (BI) team by hiring a Product Owner (PO) to support our Scrum development team. Our BI team designs, implements, and maintains our data warehouse and front-end reporting systems, enabling users to access pre-designed reports and perform self-serve analysis. This PO role will primarily support our growing brick-and-mortar gaming facilities and offers various opportunities for growth and advancement. Success in this hands-on role is achieved by effectively steering the team’s work and delivering business value. As a driving force behind the team, your presence must be visible, vocal, and objective.

BI Product Owner Job Description

We are looking for a skilled, passionate, and curious individual who will act as a liaison between the customer organization (executive, operations, marketing, and finance) and the BI development team. This position is an in-office role at our company’s headquarters in Louisville, Ky.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with gaming management and operations to understand business drivers and the information needed to support improved decision-making.
  • Strongly influencing the development effort by conveying your vision to the team and prioritizing the product backlog.
  • Balancing urgent business needs with features essential for long-term goals.
  • Translating business requirements into data needs and identifying specific data requirements with both the business and technical organization.
  • Collaborating closely with the BI Team Lead on product delivery to ensure it meets business requirements, is delivered in a timely manner, and maintains sufficient quality.
  • Working closely with the development team to field questions that arise during sprints.
  • Leading the business to think more broadly and innovatively about leveraging BI/analytics.
  • Acting as a point of contact for users, addressing/facilitating customer requests and questions to better understand their challenges and needs.
  • Building consensus across the business by developing and standardizing data priorities.
  • Leading and coaching a self-serve model.
  • Exhibiting strong communication skills.

Essential Experiences:

  • Served as a Scrum PO for 3+ years.
  • Demonstrated pride in the products you have owned.
  • Hands-on experience with Business Intelligence data warehouses and analytics.
  • Strong preference for experience in the casino or gaming industry.
  • Ability to differentiate between what is needed and what is wanted.
  • Effective communication with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Preference for experience with MS SQL, Snowflake, and/or MicroStrategy.
  • Improved deliverable quality through reviews and feedback.
  • Sharing your knowledge with the rest of the team.
  • Getting things done with Scrum.
  • Continuous learning and development.
