We are currently searching for an experienced Right of Way Agent to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA.

The Right-of-Way (ROW) Agent acquires land, easements, and other rights for our DOT and municipal clients.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Talk with property owners and public officials and secure purchase or lease of land and right-of-ways for utility lines, pipelines, and other construction projects
  • Handles all land related issues, including transfers of titles and deeds, mortgage concerns, and zoning
  • Explains project to landowners and gets approval from landholders for access routes and restoration of roads and surfaces by negotiation
  • Prepares resolutions and other legal forms related to land acquisitions
  • May examine public records to determine ownership and property rights
  • Maintains up-to-date records of contact attempts and parcel-related data in database
  • Will perform general administrative and clerical work, as necessary, to promote knowledge and assist the Team, and learning applicable regulations, laws, rules, policies, and procedures

What you need to have:

  • High School diploma or GED Required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is required in the right of way or real estate services
  • Knowledge of procedures used to acquire real property interests for public utility/infrastructure projects
  • Ability to obtain Notary Public designation
  • Knowledgeable with laws and regulations involving real estate transactions
  • Must possess competent knowledge and skills in land description and terminology, surface and subsurface rights, ROW document analysis, and have excellent negotiation skills
  • Satisfactory driving record as determined by Volkert and a current, valid State driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation for travel to meet with property owners
  • Multi-lingual is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communications and social skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, email, and general computer knowledge
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Creativity, foresight, and mature judgement to identify and resolve business, technical, and administrative related problems with ROW services
