The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Coordinator, Marine Teen Internship for our Education & Programs department. The Coordinator, Marine Teen Internship works closely with the Director of Education at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.


Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides logistical and facilitation support of the Marine Teen Internship program.

  • Supports the programmatic development of the high school Marine Teen Interns (high school juniors and seniors) object based interpretation project. Is present to support teen interns during their program facilitation.

  • Assists with the coordination and scheduling of intern transportation. When needed supervises the pick up and drop off of interns. Serves as the transportation point of contact when the Program Manager is unavailable.

  • Administers program material purchasing, organization and daily set-up. Supports catering needs, including: scheduling and making food orders, is present to receive and set up food deliveries.

  • Serves as chaperone for high school interns at NHM and for off site field trips, including overnight travel.

  • Communicates in English and Spanish with teen intern parents and legal guardians. Supports Spanish proofreading for the intern’s parent/caregiver documents.



This position has the following requirements:

  • A welcoming and personable attitude and the ability to interact effectively with high schoolers, their families, staff and other Museum visitors.

  • Must be a fluent Spanish speaker to liaise with parents, caregivers, and high school intern community. As well as, support with small scale translation for parent/caregiver related documents.

  • Experience working alongside staff with diverse backgrounds and serving diverse audiences.

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Ability to plan and lead games and activities for high schoolers.

  • Ability to relate to and communicate easily and effectively with high schoolers.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community. Hourly range for this position is $21.69 - $23.33 based on experience plus excellent benefits. This is a full time temporary (will be ending in August 2, 2024), non-exempt position.
