Altoona Nursing and Rehab is committed to providing exceptional dining experiences and nutritional care to our residents/patients. We pride ourselves on creating nutritious, delicious meals that cater to specific dietary needs while ensuring the highest standards of food safety and service.
**Position Overview:**
The Assistant Dietary Manager supports the Dietary Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the dining department. This role is vital in ensuring that all food service activities meet the dietary needs of our residents/patients, comply with federal and state regulations, and ensure exceptional quality and service. The Assistant Dietary Manager will also supervise staff, assist with menu planning, and contribute to maintaining a positive dining atmosphere.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Assist the Dietary Manager in planning, coordinating, and supervising the daily operations of the dietary department.
- Help ensure compliance with dietary regulations and standards set by federal, state, and local agencies.
- Assist in menu planning that accommodates the dietary restrictions and preferences of residents/patients.
- Supervise, train, and mentor dietary staff, ensuring they provide high-quality service and adhere to food safety protocols.
- Monitor food preparation and service to ensure quality, portion control, and adherence to established recipes and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of the kitchen and dining areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and organization.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to develop and update individual dietary care plans for residents/patients.
- Assist in inventory management, including ordering and stocking supplies as needed to maintain operational efficiency.
- Address resident/patient concerns and feedback regarding meals and service, working towards continual improvement.
- Participate in scheduled staff meetings and contribute to ongoing training and education for the dietary team.
**Qualifications:**
- Required dietary experience or equivalent experience may be considered.
- Valid Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) credential or serve safe.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a dietary management or food service role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of nutrition, food safety practices, and dietary guidelines.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to changing needs.
- Proficient in using computer software for menu planning, inventory management, and dietary record-keeping.
