Job Overview

Xanitos, Inc. is a management company that provides exceptional patient care services. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Care Assistant to join our team at UPMC Altoona in Altoona, PA.

Responsibilities
  • Provide visual and audible observation of assigned patients, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Remain at the bedside of assigned patients at all times, unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
  • Redirect patients from participating in at-risk behaviors and complete observation reports at assigned times.
  • Take initiative in rendering compassionate service and responding to patient needs.
  • Interact hospitably, cheerfully, and supportively with staff, patients, visitors, and work colleagues.
  • Summon nursing staff if patients require assistance, control, or other nursing interventions.
  • Collaborate to identify and report patient safety issues and ensure a safe patient environment.
  • Assist in calming and/or reorienting patients in cases of distress or confusion.
  • Escort patients for diagnostic testing and participate in hand-off of pertinent information about assigned patients.
  • Assist patients with ordering dietary trays, setting up meal trays, and basic positioning.
Requirements
  • Post-Offer Medical, Background Screening, and Drug Test required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and understand written English communication, including patient identifiers and important patient information.
  • CPR AED or basic life support healthcare provider (BLS-HCP) certification required.
  • Flu Vaccine required.
Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
